OK bit the bullet and booked the train. Was not cheap.... as a few of you indicated advance purchase (like three months, not one) would have been helpful.... From looking at websites I would have preferred Bahn but their rates were much more than the exorbitant rate I paid to Rail Europe. My better half insisted on a private toilet and shower which raised the rates but I’m sure will be used. All in all I estimate the “allure” we desired (having never partaken of train travel) cost about a 30 – 35% premium over airfare, extra hotel night. Now we’ve got to figure out where to purchase the champagne, beer and wine we will bring onto train….. Once again thanks for your help!
