Paris-Thursday

Leaving for Paris on Thursday for 11 days. I have the itinerary finished but thought I would ask if anyone may have any fun suggestions.

DougP Aug 19th, 2003 11:38 PM

Rollerblading!

The Segway tours with Mike's Bike Tours look like a blast! I'm tempted to go back to Paris just to do one!

On a less athletic note take the 3 hour cruise of Canal St. Martin.

Ever been to La Geode? It is the largest IMax dome theatre in the world. Also at the Parc de la Villete they have an exhibition on the Titanic which I hear is pretty good.

Definitely do the Segway tour with Mikes but reserve a couple of days in advance; we also went out to Roland Garros stadium where you can get a tour if tennis is of interest to you; bertillon ice cream is closed for the summer; go to the Rodin museum and have your picture taken posing as The Thinker!

How very European.

Take the RER out to Ile des Impressionistes and have lunch on the terrace of La Maison Fournaise, where Renoir painted "Luncheon of the Boating Party."

I second St. Cirq's suggestion. It was one of our most memorable luncheons ever, and we had the good fortune to sit out on the veranda area that is the scene of the party in the painting. Lovely food, charming setting - memorable!

if you're into antiques or general etcetera, you might enjoy an afternoon at hotel druhot (which is paris' answer to southeby and christies).

it is chock a block full of different salons auctioning everything from 10 euro lots of art books to 1 million euro paintings, tapastries and furnishings.

the atmosphere is electric with both dealers and collectors vying for special items. you can walk from room to room with bidding activity constant.

You guys are great! I knew there would be some interesting suggestions. Although for me it would be Rollerfalling. I think cruises, luncheons, and antiques are more my speed! Thanks for the input!

OK, I LOVE ice cream and hearing that Bertillon ice cream is closed is VERY upsetting news. Do you know when they're reopening? I'll be there Sept 20-27th and it was on my list!

thanks

the sign on the door said '28 August'; we still got their ice cream at several stands - just wasn't quite the same. Hopefully, you won't have to endure the heat wave that we did.

Thank goodness!

I'm hoping it will have cooled down significantly by the time we get there.

try looking at conciergerie.com under museums. They list which ones will be open/closed for New Year's.

Off the beaten path things I am pondering for my upcoming visit-catacombs, tour of the sewers, Cluny Museum to see the unicorn tapestries, St. Denis to see the Bascilica, day trip out to do the Moet & Chandon factory tour, day trip out to Chartres, cirque d'hiver (winter circus), organized walking tour.......
