Xenos,
While I think you have a good point and a good idea, the answer to your question is no, not since my son was old enough to carry his own bag. As for me and my husband, never, never, never in a million years! The reason is I'm a light packer and he is a "kitchen sink" packer, so there's never enough room in his suitcase, for one thing, and second, I am neat and compartmentalize, and he throws everything in with the expectation that he might find something he is looking for eventually. What ends up happening is he wastes a lot of good exploring time dumping the entire contents of his suitcase on the hotel bed to find what he's looking for while I avoid the ranting and craziness by exploring the neighborhood for an hour. I do, however, always keep an extra change of clothes in my on board backpack, because like you said, you never know where or when your bag's going to show up.

i will admit i did not read all the replies to your question, but will add my two cents.... after almost thirty years of marriage i will say that letting men pack themselves and making a few major mistakes like forgetting a swimsuit when going to hawaii makes them become very good packers in the long run.....

1)Cause he's kind of colorblind and can't match
2)he'd look like he slept in his clothes with all of the wrinkles.

I make him pack for the trip home though cause i don't care what the clothes look like at that point.
