I felt very safe on the Paris Metro, both day and night. Have a great trip!

Metro doesn't run all that late anyway. Bus is more fun, barring the occasional traffic jam.

I have always taken the metro and felt very safe, even in the evenings.
I have to say that last month while in Paris I left a friends house in the 16th about 12:30 and took a cab back to my apartment in the 6th. The cab driver came on to me, made a pass from what I could figure in my basic french. I am a old lady or at least I feel like one! My point being that you have to be careful, metro, bus or taxi. I got to within a block or so of my apartment and threw him the money, it was about 9something, I threw him a 10 and jumped out, said "ce tout" and a special english phrase. He was a bit surprised but never the less did the bisou bisou to me, YUCK! |
I've always thought the same. I don't find that getting into a taxi alone with an unknown male driver feels safer than public transport. Just the opposite, in my experience.

I rode the metro alot with my 14 year old daughter without any problems except one night. We were waiting on the platform one evening. A train arrived on the opposite platform and only one man got off. He saw us across the tracks and began shouting and cursing at my daughter. I felt fairly safe with the recessed tracks, knowing that he would have to go up the stairs and down to our side.
Suddenly a man came down the stairs on his side and stood watching him. After a few minutes, he approached the cursing man and removing a badge from his own jacket, arrested him. A plain clothes policeman in the right place!!!! |
