Paris: Le Grande Cafe

Looking for feedback for people who have been here. What is your favorite dish? Best time to go? Relaxing? Pricey? Not sure if I should just have coffee or stay for dinner.

We had a wonderful late supper there after the Opera. We were glad we made reservations as it became packed around 11 PM.
Many were eating the shellfish platters, but we did steak/frites and steak tartare/frites, both were very good. And Lee's creme brulee was excellent --(are they ever not?)

We have eaten there twice. It is really beautiful, always nice service. It was great for a relaxing lunch in the middle of a busy sightseeing day, but we also went in the evening. I highly recommend the Kir Royale and the Creme Brulee but eveything we had was excellent.

As one of the most famous 24-hour establishments in Paris, the closer to midnight that you go, the more crowded it might be. After 2 a.m., no problem.

Excellent Christmas decorations this year.

Thanks Kerouac, safe to assume this is not were you sip your famous 1.2E coffees?

Another beautiful spot where food is not the star but rather the decor. We, too, ate there after an opera. it's a nice option to have something reasonable open late but if you're a foodie you'll find the fare pretty mundane.

JulieVikmanis, not a foodie by any means - looking for nice decor. Maybe it would be better to just have a coffee or glass of wine and pass on dinner.

Absolutely correct, Cato. No bargains at Le Grand Café.

"Maybe it would be better to just have a coffee or glass of wine and pass on dinner."

Good idea.

We've been there 3 times and while I don't consider myself a "foodie", I do like delious food and we thought the food was delicious. The decor, as others have said, is wonderful--all stained glass. Check out the ladie's room (if you qualify, or snear a peak if you don't and have some cheek...oh dear, that was bad :D). We usually go around 7 to 8ish and it's never been too crowded, but can see where it might be when the opera lets out.

On my list for at least coffee, maybe lunch. Got to do it.
