83% of the tourists who come to Paris are French or from Europe, so frankly they are not at all shocked by the weather or the temperature conditions of their accommodations. Soon, the Chinese will be the largest foreign group, and they are not big complainers either.

Who is complaining? Who is saying they won’t come? I must have missed it.

Oh, they'll come if they can have air conditioning and can continue to damage the environment. We know which countries don't really care about that.

Anyway, the excess heat is gone for the moment.

Oh come on damage to Paris environment is not because of hotel ACs but more with the vehicular emissions one would think. Don't blame something on a casual tourist. They usually take public transit - weather seems to be changing in northern France - friend from Orleans says few have AC there but she has a condo with wallks on each side and windows for cross ventilation - most hotels do not offer that as was said above.

Too many tourists in Paris - yeah that's a problem but not to city's economy -you work in air industry I believe - what if half as many planes were landing?

Lots of poorer folks who serve hospitality industry must depend on tourists as may Uber and taxi drivers.

Tourism is "a strategic sector for the French economy", says Paris Tourism/Sunday working – Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development Spokesman

Paris, 9 September 2014

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development had a meeting this afternoon with the Chairman of the fact-finding and evaluation mission on Sunday working, set up in June 2014 within the Paris Council.

Building on the momentum generated at the recent Tourism Conference, Laurent Fabius reiterated his support for permission to open on Sundays to be extended to the Boulevard Haussmann area, with concerted financial compensation mechanisms for the employees concerned.

Tourism is a strategic sector for the French economy: it accounts for over two million direct and indirect jobs, a surplus of over €10 billion in our trade balance and is worth more than 7% of GDP. It is therefore essential to strengthen this sector and France’s position as world leader in tourism, in a context where other countries’ tourism offers are increasingly competitive./

Government of France thinks tourism is vital and wants more income by extending Sunday hours in tourist zones.

We don't have AC here in our house in the Dordogne - no one does. And it gets hot and humid here in summer. We do have a pool and a couple of fans, but the fans we use primarily for white noise to keep from being bothered by the constant cooing of the ver loud doves.

AC is considered unhealthy here, though you could argue against that when looking back at that monstrously hot summer when loads of Parians went on vacation, leaving elderly parents to die in droves in their overheated Parisian apartments. It just might have been sensible for them to leave their families with a way to cool themselves. I bet tourists in unairconditioned hotels were complaining that summer, and maybe dying too.

At any rate, when I'm vacation anywhere in hot and humid climates in summer I opt for a room with AC, and I don't feel bad about it.
