Mac1, you must be referring to the price of a single room in those hotels (for $100), not for doubles...

I, too, don't think, MAC1, you're referring to double rooms. Many of them charge more than 100 euro even for a single. A few like The Perreyve do charge less than 100 euro for singles and doubles.

I just tried Hotel du College de France and they are all booked! Does anyone like the Hotel Royal Phare? I liked it a few years ago, but my sister returned within the last couple of years and said the management has changed and they are no longer very nice people.

The Hotel Bonaparte has doubles for about 115E/nite w/bkfst and AC and ensuite bath.

..2 messages..ist..to teatime- i think you will be happier in the 6th than the 5th..the streets are busy enough to feel comfortable at night but not the crush of students (and ? pickpockets esp near tourist sites) in the 5th.
..to nathalie..i am perhaps of an opposite personality esp when trip planning..definitely a type B...but perhaps i can be of some help..you will be in paris so you will not be in your room except to sleep..look for a clean hotel on a QUIET street (ie not on the main thoroughfares)...if it is quiet the specific street doesnt matter a lot though i think the neighborhood does..depending on your style there are great places in each of the central arrondissments (1-8)..but each of the areas has a different flavor.. You do have a problem..your budget is really tight for 2 (unlike N.A., doubles are more than a couple of $ more than singles). i would suggest that you get on trip advisor and parishotels.com..this should allow you to find something that meets your needs..also check out travelocity or expedia..i saw a great deal on a good hotel in the 8th..there may be something there...Book asap..the good little hotels (esp if in the guidebooks) can be booked months in advance..if i can be of any help, drop me a note.

I think I would be happy in any neighborhood in Paris just because it is in Paris. We used to stay at the Hotel Clement in the 6th but the prices went up this year to about 126 euros for a double. We switched to Hotel la Sorbonne in the 5th and were very happy.

We liked the neighborhood better. You can walk anyplace from there. It's right across the street from the Université de la Sorbonne so there are people about at all hours. That makes you feel safe. The staff spoke English and politely suffered our French. They were incredibly helpful and friendly and the desk is open 24 hours a day.

Down side is that the rooms are quite small. However, that said, the beds are comfortable, there is adequate closet space and the bathrooms are clean and well equipped, including a hair dryer. It is well within your budget too.

There is also a nice little square around the corner (Place de la Sorbonne) with fountains, shops and restaurants. Three Metro stations are an easy walk and the nightlife in the Latin Quarter is lively.
