I've passed this hotel many many times but have never stopped in or seen the rooms. It has mixed reviews in TA. But it is right across the street from 2 bus stops and a block and a half away from the ones on Quai Malaquais. It is within level walking distance from shops, cafes, and even the St Germain Metro. It does have an elevator and the price is in your budget..you can also walk to the Louvre and the D'Orsay easily. I am not recommending it but you might investigate it.

Some bus lines are much better than others.

I suggest you go to an online bookseller get a copy of the Paris Mapguide, which shows bus routes.

To look up individual routes, use this, changing the number:

In Paris, purchase a little blue book of bus routes--Le Bus.

Taxis are also useful.

.pdf files are easier to magnify and print out. Pan and zoom to the exact map you want and choose "Current view" from the "Print range" panel. Use this model and change the bus route number at the end:

thank you all for the good tips. the good news is we are back and were pleasantly surprisd with the original hotel. i was unable to deal with the complications of hotel change, etc., the days before our trip.

The Timhotel Palais Royal itself and their website had failed to mention teh busstop that is OUT THE DOOR ( the 29).

So my relief was maximized, and what a nice way to start the day in the marais!

i will post a short report later on london and paris, but wanted to thank everyone again and let others know that websites and hotel clerks cannot always be trusted.

And yes, you're right..I don't believe everything I read..and specially, don't trust hotel clerks !!!! :P

kenderina.. only the 29 is out the door. if you have a PASS instead of carnets, then you can just change at popular stop and connect to many places. but if you only use ind. tickets it can get more expensive.

the other stops are two blocks away, or 3/four blocks. this area is very nice and the hotel is practically connected to the beautiful gallerie vivienne!

And kenderina, the petit palais is totally handicap adapted.it was fabuluos. They gave me a sleek wheel chair for my mother and accompanied us to the cloak room and to the elevators.

there is also a nice cafe there.
this is a free museum and newly renovated. spectacular!

we had a great time.

How to display bus and Métro stops:

Go to http://www.ratp.fr

On the main page, type your hotel's address into the box that has <b>Plan de quartier</b> below it. Include the zip code, <i>e.g.</i> <b>3 rue de la banque 75002</b>. Press the &quot;Plan de quartier&quot; button.

A map will be displayed showing the target hotel centered, with bus and M&eacute;tro stops around it. Mousing over the icons will reveal what bus line or M&eacute;tro stop is designated by each.

Try it using the above address, and you will see lincasanova's hotel.

It might be slightly over pricewise, but the Best Western Nouvel Orleans with a subway entrance across the street, or the Denfert-Rochereau station is 5 minutes away. It has an elevator, breakfast, internet access and nice neighborhood. It's not so centrally located, but the train is right there. Have fun!
