I forget the room cat. but we were on the 2nd floor with balcony. We did have the breakfast and you have to get up pretty early otherwise most items were already gone (buffet style). We have some friends that stayed there in April and loved it, their first time to Paris, they would stay there again.

newmanparker Sep 8th, 2008 01:22 PM

What "room cat' are you referring to? Are you speaking about the d'abussson?

newmanparker Sep 8th, 2008 01:23 PM

Sorry... i know that now... room category........ at the Parc? It's been a long day

Not to confuse you more, but thought I would chime in. We stayed two times at Hotel Etoile (which was the Duret before it was remodelled and doubled in price.) It is a lovely, quiet residential area and the cafes, local shops, etc are all very convienent. It is not touristy in the least. Friends of mine met the Irish ambassador to France at the corner bistro and were invited to a soiree of his. If you end up there, you wouldn't be sorry...

Thanks. I have read nice things about the Duret. Plus, we can get a suite special for 50 eur under our budget. A deluxe room for 100 Eur for under our budget. Not sure why the rates at this property are so good. But it looks like a nice place.

The Hotel Duret does look lovely online, but I think you should consider what neighborhood you want to base in. This hotel is close to the Arc, The Eiffel Tower, and the Champs, but for everything else ( Notre Dame, Louvre, Marais, Musee D'Orsay, etc.) you'd need to jump on the metro. If that's OK with you, it may well be worth the better rate. If not, you might want to stick with something more central where you'd be in walking distance of many more places.

I definitely agree Weadles... it really is a little far for us.... the D'Aubusson looks great...

newmanparker Sep 12th, 2008 05:03 PM

Where in the 1st does someone recommend up to 350 EUR?

Just for the record, there are at least two "Champs" areas in Paris: the most famous one is the Champs Elysée, while the other is the Champs de Mars, by the Eiffel Tower. "champs" by itself just means fields.

newmanparker Sep 13th, 2008 06:56 PM

I meant champs elysees

newmanparker Sep 14th, 2008 08:41 AM

Has anybody stayed or know of the St. Vincent Hotel in St. Germain? It looks nice...

josephina Sep 14th, 2008 08:50 AM

Keep your Aubusson reservation--you could go nuts with all the choices, and there's no "right" or "wrong". It's a great location for what you want to do and it's quite a charming hotel. I just am so happy you got away from the Champs.

newmanparker Sep 14th, 2008 08:57 AM

I think it is overwhelming. Since it could be our only trip ever there, we want it to be a special place. Thanks

newmanparker,

You need to stop obsessing. The Hotel Aubusson is nice.
You are not living there, you will be sleeping and changing clothes there.

It is a nice hotel in a great central area.

You will never find the perfect place,, so really, cut it out.

You should spend more time now planning on which sites to see, how to use the metro and RER and which restaurants you may want to try for some special meals.

newmanparker Sep 14th, 2008 09:39 AM

obsessing? thanks for your kindness

Weadles Sep 14th, 2008 10:03 AM

Even if you never get back to Paris again, you'll be very happy at Hotel d'Aubusson. I promise. I'm lucky enough to visit Paris pretty regularly ( have stayed at several other places, mostly on the Left Bank) and Hotel d'Aubusson is a lovely hotel in an excellent location for exploring Paris, especially, I think, if you're a first-timer. ( Just to give you an idea: Latin Quarter: 5-10 minute walk, Notre Dame: 15 minutes walk, Louvre: 15 minute walk, Musee D'Orsay, 20 minute walk, The Seine-up the street from the hotel, St. Germaine- you're in it, but the avenue itself is two minutes from the hotel.)

Now go and have fun! That's an order...!!!

StCirq Sep 14th, 2008 10:04 AM

Yes, obsessing. You've gotten a total of 88 responses on two different threads from a wide variety of people with vast experience in Paris, free of charge, and you're still dithering. I'd call that obsessing.

You need to concentrate on what you're going to do OUTSIDE the hotel, which is presumably where you'll be spending most of your time. OTOH, if you really are going to Paris just to experience a great hotel, this is probably not the best message board to have targeted. Great Luxury Hotels of the World, or something like that, might be a better bet.

newmanparker Sep 14th, 2008 10:13 AM

thanks weadles for YOUR kindness... merci

I read a new article on some recently opened hotels in Paris. One they mentioned was the Hotel St. Vincent in the 7th. Reviews on tripadvisor were very favorable. It is in the 6th... does any know of this property?
