Perfect location - excellent choice!

newmanparker Sep 6th, 2008 11:21 PM

thanks for your responses. with the positive replies on this and tripadvisor, i am confident that the Aubusson will be a good choice.

newmanparker Sep 6th, 2008 11:23 PM

I think i liked the Lumen because it is brand new and fresh...

bozama Sep 6th, 2008 11:29 PM

"new and fresh" yuck, why go to Paris at all then, it is after all very old...LOL

Seriously, the Aubusson is a great choice, it is nice and old, but is well kept, has character and the location is the best.

I didn't check back in time to help with the Hotel Grand Hommes, but I have also stayed there. It is a lovely traditional hotel in an excellant location also, but, the rooms are very very small ( very traditional.LOL ) . It is also half the price of the Aubusson.

You will have a fab time and I am so very glad you are not staying near the CE,, it could have colored your whole perception of Paris, and not in a positive way. You will enjoy the 6th very much.

One word of warning about Hotel D'Aubusson: Like many other hotels in Paris, some of the rooms in less pricey categories can be quite small. There's been at least a few mentions of that here on the forum. If it's within budget, try to book a grande luxe room. They are a nice size, with excellent beds, very good amenities, and views of either the interior patio/couryard or rue christine.

IMO the hotel D'Aubusson looks great and in an excellent location.

Good choice! Just be sure to upgrade from the standard room.

newmanparker Sep 7th, 2008 09:38 AM

the package that they offer is either in the superior or grand luxe... i chose the superior, which is 25 sq m, the grand is 30 sq m. Is that much of a difference-- It is a difference of 50 Eur a night. The lowest category is 20 sq m

Weadles Sep 7th, 2008 10:08 AM

Actually I think my kids were in the superior room. It is a little smaller, but was certainly very nice.

newmanparker Sep 7th, 2008 10:20 AM

Have u seen the grand room? Is it is much bigger, and therefore worth the difference in price?

newmanparker Sep 7th, 2008 10:23 AM

bozama,

Let me clarify. the lumen hotel is in a very old building, but was recently opened with all new insides

Weadles Sep 7th, 2008 11:09 AM

My husband and I stayed in the Grande Luxe room, which was connected by a small private sealed off hallway to the superior room. Ours was a bit larger, but not a big deal. Both rooms were very nice.

I would recommend the Hotel Luxembourg Parc, having stayed there last year. It is in a great location, near the Luxembourg Parc, Blvd St Michel, Moufftard Market, and with very convenient buses along St Michel which take you over to the Louvre etc. The hotel is old-fashioned and elegant. I would not pay for the hotel breakfast, which is overpriced. Instead, walk down the street toward Blvd Ste Michel and eat breakfast upstairs at Dalloyau with a lovely view of the gardens.
Re the buses, the 21 and 27 are very useful from this location. To get a bus map, go down into the Luxembourg RER station and ask for a bus map, or "Plan des Lignes" While there buy a "carnet" of ten tickets for Zones 1 & 2 or if you're going to be there a week, consult other posts which tell you all about getting a Navigo to load with a weekly pass good for buses and Metro Monday through Sunday.

Forgot to say that at the Hotel Luxembourg we upgraded one level and had a large hotel room, a very generous size for Paris. At your price range you shouldn't have to stay in a tiny room.

Hi; Have you considered an apartment? Try vrbo.com as they are in all districts. ENJOY Iris

newmanparker Sep 7th, 2008 12:23 PM

the rates at the luxembourg include the breakfast. I just checked.

newmanparker Sep 7th, 2008 12:39 PM

I dont consider 25 sq meters that small for a Paris hotel..

Weadles Sep 7th, 2008 01:05 PM

Trust me, 25 meters is more than adequate. And you're not in your room (hopefully!) that much, anyway!

newmanparker Sep 7th, 2008 03:06 PM

Thanks Weadles for your help... it will be a great place to stay... Some hotels that i have read about are 12 m2.

This hotel has really great reviews ... plus we will be out all day touring, then will have plenty to do in the area at night. :)
