Melissa, I have to admit I haven't been there since we met there for the GTG.

Is it Le Dernier Goute (or something similar)? I'll try to find out about the tastings. We could probably meet for something like that, though I know many people like a dinner GTG.

I kind of like drinks or wine tasting myself. It's not such a major commitment. I have a picture from the Dernier Goute
GTG that I would like to post but don't know how. It's in my my pictures file, which isn't on the internet, so I don't think there's any way, right?

Shucks. Don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can't get my face off and the picture from the GTG on. I can see it in the edit your profile page but when I punch the button to upload it all, all I get is my face all over again. Ugh. Technology is just not my strong suit. Sorry for over promising.

Well I was hoping one of the pictured ones was Melissa 19. I'm there and so are the couple we travel with. He lurks here but doesn't post. I keep them updated by sending them posts of interest to them. The other person pictured may be
"Another Judy" someone I haven't seen posting here for a while. Melissa was there with her husband who was wearing a real French beret. Don't know if any of this is visible even
with a magnifying glass, but at least I finally managed to post the picture.

Sorry, thought I posted yesterday (probably on wrong thread). Anyway, that's me in the red coat! DH has been wearing berets forever, so it was funny that he was noticed for it in Paris.

Julie, I remember you all telling stories about your trip to Champagne. Is that right?

I'm in for that time as well. Unfortunately that would leave Gomiki the OP out since s/he will be there from the 23 to 30th. The only overlap I have with those dates is the 23rd. Maybe we'll get two GTGs out of this one thread. Anyone else want to weigh in on dates here?

melissa, Sorry we can't be at Le Derniere Goutte on that Saturday. We will arrive on the 22nd and Cigalechanta & Gomiki will arrive on the 23rd. Julie, maybe we can meet for a drink? Many of your restaurants appear on my lists! Too many good places too few days-sigh!

Sure. We'll be there 14 nights. We can arrange to drink with someone every one of those nights, in fact, could be an interesting challenge. (We celebrated DH's 60th b'day in Paris by drinking a toast to him in 19 of the 20 arrondissements. We're pretty good at drinking in Paris.) So we surely could arrange to meet AGM, Cigale and Gomiki on the 23rd, and Melissa on the 21st. Anyone want to speak for the other nights?

Melissa, yes, we had been in Champagne country before meeting you the bereted one at Derniere Goutte. What a memory!, but then you're younger.

It appears from reading this that the best day for the GTG would be Tuesday or Wednesday. Now the question is would everyone like to meet for drinks w/a dinner option? Or just drinks? If so, wine bar? Any ideas are welcome. It appears that several posters will be in the 5th and 6th. So maybe in that area? It's exciting that so many posters might be able to make it!

Julie, maybe cigale, AGM, and I can meet you on the 23rd for a drink. If that might work for you I will post my email address and we can work out the details.

Well, I'm not planning anything but that is the week of my birthday and Paris would be nice....I was there last year that same week.

We arrive on the 22 and leave on the 30. We are open to anything.

Gomiki, I'd welcome the opportunity to meet you three for a drink on the 23rd, even if I can't make the Tues. or Wed. larger gathering. you can e-mail me at valdisvikmanis at comcast dot net.

Consider Louis Vins as a venue for the gathering. It has a small wine bar and a restaurant. It's cute, has excellent food, a nice vibe, reasonable prices (23-26 euro dinners and 15 euro lunch). It's at 9 rue de la Montagne St. Genevieve, Maubert Mutualite. Only drawback--and probably not for a group--is its no credit card policy.

Another really pretty place would be Bouillon Racine in the 6th, metro Odeon of Cluny la sorbone, at 3 rue Racine. The bar couldn't be prettier, very art nouveau. Roughly same food prices as Louis Vins, but food can be hit or miss. The bar and the decor OTOH is superb.

Fish, la Boissonnerie, at 69 rue de Sein, metro Mabillon or Odeon is very casual and cute. They have a small bar and rustic picnic table seating, excellent food and prices just slightly higher than Louis Vins or Bouillon Racine. Nice area with lots of activity nearby.

You could also gather at any of the bars in the Carrefour d'Odeon (near the Comptoir Relais where Camdeborde holds forth) and then those who want to move on for dinner could adjourn to the ever popular Chez Maitre Paul to pig out on that lovely chicken in jura wine sauce with morels.

Apparently the wine tastings at Derniere Goutte take place on Saturday or so says my Pudlo guide, so that might not work out as a repeat venue.

Supposedly Le Luxembourg at 58 Bd. St. Michel is a brasserie with views of the Lux. gardens which has long served as a meeting place for academics and students from the Sorbonne. It's a cafe which would tend to indicate that you could sit for drinks and then follow with a modest meal.

Sigh. Wish I could come.

Don't lose this thread. Even if we can't make the GTG, it needs to happen and perhaps others will see and be able to add to the fun. Note the thread here entitled "For someone who has been to paris 14 times, always something new!" He goes to Hotel du Nord and La Ver Vole winebar nearby. A bit off the beaten track but atmospheric (to copy a term) and could be a fun venue for a GTG, getting more people out of the middle.
