Paris for 4/5 days
 

Myself and my partner are going to Paris for 4/5 days in mid February. Can anyone recommend any things we should definitely see/do or places we can't miss out on?
Any tips would be appreciated!

Sleep.

I've never stayed in the Canal St. Martin area but will for a night on an upcoming trip so I can walk easily to Gare du Nord. After I posted the Fodor's link above I noticed a piece in their guide here about the area and I'm still reading all the possibilities and marking them on my map of the neighborhood. One is a recommended and inexpensive Chinese restaurant right across the street from my hotel and that's what I call heaven!

Sometimes we miss the best information that's right in front of us, if we only looked. So don't forget the "Destinations" button at the top of the page (everyone). Even after many visits to Paris, I'll never run out of new things to do (and eat). Thanks, Fodor's!

You travel to Paris and call a cheap Chinese restaurant heaven????

When you're in the Canal St-Martin area, check out Chez Prune (right on the canal). The minute you see it, you're going to think "Who is that nutcase on Fodors who thought I'd be interested in this place?" but trust me, it's quite cool (and always packed). Good food, good prices, quirky atmosphere.

We always stay high up on the hill in Ménilmontant and walk down to the canal through all the African stores/cafés and then through the large Asian area. We've had some delicious, inexpensive meals all over that part of town, including cheap Chinese.

If only there were a web page listing things to see and do in the world's top tourism destination.

StCirq, Chez Prune is another on the Fodor's list and they say the same, to not be fooled by the exterior. I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks.

Regarding Chinese, we take our preferences with us wherever we go and, having traveled often and extensively in China and Asia, Chinese is still my favorite, considered by many to be the world's greatest cuisine. Traveller1959, I suspect judging by the snide remark, wouldn't know a good noodle if it slapped them in the face. I'll eat good Chinese whenever I get the chance and if it's inexpensive too, well yes, heaven.

Place to stay if you have not already booked. We have used this studio for the past 13 or 14 years.

Isn't it advertising ?
(even well intentioned).

How do you distinguish, Whathello, between a recommendation and advertising? I suggest it is advertising if jkbritt was paid for the mention and I see no indication that that's the case. I believe several participants here stay at that apartment.

I don't - that's why I ask.
If poster were a first time poster it would be clear.
Here I don't know.

What is advertising is someone registering and linking to their own website/business. That is what the editors remove. But we have always been able to post links to places we think others might enjoy.

On a sunny day, Saint Chapelle. I also love St Denis, burial place of French kings. Climbing the towers at Notre Dame for the lovely view and the gargoyles. Musee d'orsay, L'Orangerie and Musee Marmottan, if you love Impressionism. The original Chanel boutique on rue Cambon. We loved our food tour with Paris by Mouth....food heaven.

Museum Carnavalet...history of Paris...IMHO a must-see for all visitors. In the Marais...easy to get to...and nominally free, though you really should pay the suggested 5€ donation.

I, too, love St Denis...more mystical than Notre Dame with its white light pouring in, no crowds and amazing burial place of most French monarchs back to the 500s.

This is often cited as the first cathedral in Europe the was built in the Gothic style.

For a first-timer with 4/5 days, you might have to save it for your inevitable next trip to Paris, but if you can fit it in, do it.
