OH!!! I see what you're saying. In her note, she is mentioning the NY Times article you've mentioned. Gotcha.

I guess maybe everyone dances on the tables for their birthdays there :)

Try this..
this has info for guide books for vegetarians and you can get a book or just look at it and get lists, called Paris Bio
They review restaurants in Paris as well as street markets. Should be helpful and I think it is written by people who have actually eaten/tested the food.

We ate excellent Indo/Pakistani food personally served by the manager (it was a slow night)at a restaurant on Rue le Saint-Beuve in the 6th. It's just across the road from Hotel le Saint-Beuve and a two-minute walk from Boul. de Raspaille.

Happy new year to you.

I had dinner at Moroccan restaurant 404 this past summer. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, it seemed soo familiar and cozy. I eventually realized it was familiar cuz it's owned by the same people as the popular Momo, in London, and had the same decor (but worse food). I didn't try many other ethnic places- unless Buddha Bar is considered ethnic and I enjoyed it totally- so i'd recommend 404 and/or next door Andy Wahloo for the atmosphere but definitely not for the food. I make better tagines and couscous and my culinary skills are dismal. No one danced at the table- I'd heard that, too.

I agree with the post near the top that mentioned Rue Mouffetard for a variety of ethnic eateries albeit probably much more casual than this poster wants.

I highly recommend 404 A great North African restaurant and hip dining experience. We ate at MOMO in London their sister restaurant. Had a wonderful dinner. So when we went to Paris we had to try 404 just as great!

La Maison des Tartes, 67 rue Mouffetard, serves declicious pies. They have a formule of one savoury + one sweet pie + drink for about 10 Euros. The owner is a VERY cute man, maybe Spanish or Portuguese, who speaks French and English.
