Dear Susanne;
here are a few more choices in the 6th starting with the most reasonable 1) grand hotel de l' Univers- a good choice I stayed there a few years ago and the rooms were well maintaned and decorated in very lovely " French" decor. Ours was a classic toile & a good size room; be sure to ask for a room that does not face the street and upgrading is always recommended.
2) hotel Saint Germian des Pre's probably the most deluxe chain in this catogorey; and hotel left bank Saint Germian.
You can view all these hotels by logging onto www.parisby.com but I would recommend booking directly with the hotel as cancelation fees through this site are steep.
Good luck...Viva la France
Fluffy
to the top for Susanne

The Best Western chain is not at all like what you know of in the US. As mentioned, they are individually owned. I regret not keeping my reservation at the Hotel de St. Germain des Pres as it is a very nice-looking hotel on rue Bonaparte. Rue Bonaparte is right in the heart of the St. Germain area. I could have gotten a room with a canopied bed also but passed it up for another hotel which I absolutely regret staying at and for which I paid much more than the BW St. Germain des Pres. All I can say is that I pay to learn. If I go back to Paris, I will try to stay there.

I have stayed in Best Westerns all over Europe & have always had good luck. They are always moderately priced & nice. Best of all, unlike Expedia, etc. you make the reservation online & pay when you arrive. Cancellation policies are generous, much like in the states. We have changed our lodging numerous times w/them as well w/no penalty. I highly recommend them for Paris as well, they have several properties there that should fit your requirements.

Stayed at the TimHotel Louvre earlier this year. Great location, good price. Not much going on in the evening in the immediate neighborhood, but just on the otherside of the Louvre from the Seine, so easy access. They have a website.
