Last October I stayed at Hotel le Loiret. Located in the 4th right off of rue du Rivoli on a small side street called Mauvais Garcons. The location was amazing and I couldn't find any other hotel in the area with such a good rate. My friend paid 60€ for a room with a bathroom and I paid 45€ for a room with the shower and toilet down the hall (I was on a tight budget). I never had a problem getting in or using the facilities, and I never felt unsafe, I just locked my door behind me when I went down the hall.

I had a tiny balcony on the sixth floor and had an amazing view of Paris roof tops, Hotel de Ville and Notre Dame (especially great view at night).

Try them, they may have a free room, but it's not a large hotel. No web site, but email is [email protected]

I believe you must have meant Hotel DU Loiret. It's reviewed on Trip Advisor

It's listed on several hostel sites, but I couldn't find any rates. Just Google the name.

Thanks, all.

Yet another option ... Hotel du 7th Art has a room for 59 Euros with private shower but shared WC. This would be okay with me, and the location is good. It gets good reviews on TA. Has anyone stayed here that can comment, especially in such a single with shared WC. Is the room arrangement awkward with just a shower ... how does that work?

Travelnut Oct 4th, 2006 03:11 PM

I don't know but a guess is the room used to not have a shower, and then one day they 'installed' a shower box in one corner...

I'd guess that also, it's probably a prefab shower stall. In older hotels, it's a lot easier for them to install just running water for a sink or shower than the plumbing for a toilet.

Hi Joe

I know you mentioned that Hotel de France Invalides , was a little over budget for you, Ive stayed here quite a few times, alone and with my Daughter, I've always felt very safe walking around the area at night, my Daughter who is 18yrs old thought it was a little sedate for her liking, but I find it a nice area. The hotel is very clean and comfortable with very nice friendly staff. I've always found it very easy to travel anywhere I wanted from the area.If you find you cant get a booking anywhere else that matches your budget and you could go the extra few Euro'd I would recommend the Hotel de France Invalides.

Hey, Joe - we stayed at Hotel de Turenne in the 7th (by Ecole Militaire) in 2001. Nothing fancy but clean, tasty continental breakfast... some rooms may have been updated since then...anyway, the rate for a single w/ shower is 61€

Dear Joe,

if you are interested I can rent you a bedroom in my flat for EUR 30 per day. I am near Biblioteque Francois Mitterrand, 10 min. by RER to Notre-Dame and Quartier Latin. Of course, you have access to all facilities in the flat: kitchen, TV, internet Wi-Fi etc. Write to [email protected] for pictures and more info

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm down to Porte Doree or Andrea Louvre. I've booked my flight plans and am working on an itinerary; I'll be mostly in the 1 - 7 emes, so being in the 1st would of course be more centrally located, but then that hotel seems a little less nice than the Doree, and the extra (almost) 50 Euros would go a long way for attractions, food, etc. Any last thoughts?

What did the Hotel de Chevreuse say?

JoeTro Oct 5th, 2006 03:38 PM

full, unfortunately.

Christina Oct 6th, 2006 10:19 AM

So, are you looking at 54 euro versus 70 euro?

I know of a couple more in that range in a better location than the Doree.

First, the Hotel Saint Pierre is in St Germain near Odeon, and they have singles with shower only for 65 euro. I think with WC, it's more like 70.

The Hotel Cujas Pantheon near the Sorbonne has singles with shower (and I think WC) for 70 euro. So does the HOtel de l'Esperance near rue Mouffetard

The HOtel Mistral in MOntparnasse as singles with shower/WC at 62/64, but they do have singles without toilet/shower for only 47 euro. They have a wash basin in the room, as many do without the other facilities. YOu could inquire how many use the facilities. I think Sartre stayed there a while. It's on the bottom end of the cemetery, which isn't as convenient as near bd Montparnasse, but it's only a couple blocks from Gaite metro and is just off rue Daguerre, which is great.

Thanks again, Christina. I had originally contacted all those places, and they were either full or a little more than 70, so I figured Andrea was better.

Christina Oct 6th, 2006 11:22 AM

oh, well, I guess so then. YOu must have contacted an awful lot of hotels, better book one.

jdbird Oct 8th, 2006 03:18 PM

check out the Perfect Hotel on Rue du Rodier. cheap, clean, close to metro.

JoeTro Oct 8th, 2006 03:25 PM

I've booked with Porte Doree. Thanks to all for your help.
