paris apartments
Can anyone help me with apartments in Paris? I have read just about every message regarding hotels and am so confused I don't know where to go!! We are staying about 8/9 nights so someone suggested an apartment. I have looked at some on the web and most look a bit dodgy. However there was one site that looked pretty good. Any suggestions/recommendations please.

Try www.vrbo.com
That is where I rented my Paris apartment...have also used for Tahoe, San Diego, & Maui. Kelbert |
We just got back from a week long stay at a "vacationinparis.com" apartment in the 7eme. We were very very pleased.
Keep looking on the internet and when you find something you like, ask the company for referneces or go to one of these travel chat lines and ask if anyone has stayed in the particular apartment. That's the way we narrowed down our choices and made a selection. |
Which apartment did you stay in in the 7th?

A lot of the cheaper vacation rental apartments have some discomforts or poor decorating or minimal cheap furniture. THen you have to figure out location, what the building faces, floor and if you need an elevator, etc. Then consider the deposit and payment terms and that most will be nonrefundable after a certain point.
There are nice ones, but they are expensive (www.parisperfect.com has some nice-looking ones and most folks who've stayed there liked them that I can recall, but they are not cheap). HOw much to you want to spend on this? If you are confused about looking at hotel web sites, you are really going to have confusion once you enter the apartment web sites, I think, as you have more to consider and less guarantees. I've had good dealings with www.barclayweb.com for one agent -- they are at least easy to deal with and a reputable agency so you won't have to worry about trusting a total stranger with money, etc. They are tons of them out there, though. |
We rented from Paris Perfect in November 2003 and were extremely happy with the apartment and the rental experience.

I have a friend who lives in in the US and she is renting her Paris apartment in the 15th arrondisement. She charges 750 euros/week for her one bedroom apt. It is a great location...about 10 minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower. Nearby there are many food markets typical of France...fromagerie, a nice patisserie, and a fish market. The apartment is well-supplied with everything you need. If you are interested, email me at [email protected].

thank you so far to everyone who has replied. we are happy to spend about 1600 euros a week. I have seen some good ones on Chez Vous, does anyone know this site? thanks again, anymore suggestions are still appreciated.

I have used vrbo with great success. My first happened to be owned by a nice Scottish man and our communications couldn't have been nicer.
I'm renting one in May from a Parisian, but all seems to be swell so far (and lots of good recs on this one). I'm really not an agent for this guy, but he has posted here and really seems on the up and up: Randall Smith has a couple of apts. Visit www.lacigaleparis.com to see them. They are pretty pricy, but on a par with ParisPerfect. If you are going to spend €1600 ($2100), it seems to me it might be better to deal with Americans for the ease of paying for it. As it is, I arrive in Paris and need to have €800 cash in hand for my apt. in May. Still haven't figured it out. |
I am in love!! The apartments on Paris Perfect do look perfect. Thanks so much for the tip. I have emailed them to see about availability. I am actually from Oz so payment is still going to be an issue maybe. Thanks for the last tip I will look at that as well. I had my heart set on the 6th arr but the parisperfect are all in the 7th, does anyone have any views re the two areas? Is the 7th just a nice. I am looking for quaint looks, cafes, shops etc not the big streets like the champs. tks

Here is an apartment another poster here likes that is in the 6th. He recommended it on another thread.
http://www.sant.com/ |
Jerwick- The apartment was the Elegant Invalides #74.
Another consideration for us was the poor exchange rate. We wanted to pay in dollars so we looked for companies that accepted payment that way. Schnauzer - The 7eme is a quiet location, but has plenty of market areas, shops, and cafes. The streets are not crowded, it is quiet at night, but close to tourist sights and easy metro/but access. |
The www.vrbo.com website is a good bet as the flats are all owner-owned--there is no agency involved--the agencies bring up the cost. You might check out an apartment we found on vrbo--the owner has his own website www.wewillalwayshaveparis.net--my husband and I think it was a great flat in a splendid location!

We are staying at an apartment through Parisperfect.com in May. The owners live in London and are very easy to deal with. I have spoken with them and had numerous e-mail conversations as well. We have paid our money for the rental in dollars. I feel confident that we will get exactly what we are expecting. Hope this helps.

A year ago we used www.vacationinparis.com and rented an apartment for 6 nights but I can't remember which arrond. but it was on rue de levi, by Villier Metro stop, which is a pedestrian street with all the markets. It was perfect for our family of 4 and we really got to live like a Parisian.

Just remember to look beyond the apartments in the usual 1-8 arrondissements. Some of the best apartments in Paris are located in more residential areas in the 17th, 11th, 12th, etc. You might also visit the site www.SlowTravel.com. There are several apartment rental agencies that advertise on that site and you can see compare them easily.

thank you so much to everyone who has posted. I am making a decision very soon, the Paris Perfect ones are the best contenders at this stage. Jazzyred - could you let us know how you went in May please.

I'll be staying at a little studio in Montmarte in May through Paris Vacation Apartments for just $700 US (http://www.parisvacationapartments.com)
I'll be reporting back on my return but what I have seen in their service so far and the comments on the site they look like a good bet. They have quite a few places and not just studios |
Schnauzer, I’m not sure which Paris Perfect apartment you're interested in renting but we rented Romaneé in February and were very pleased w/the apartment and our experience working with the owners/manager. The apartment sleeps six which I think might be a little cramped unless some in your group are children (we were two adult couples).
Last November, we stayed at the sant.com apartment (recommended to us by Patrick) and will return there this July. We prefer the 6th; otherwise we would return to a Paris Perfect apartment. An apartment that I would like to try is chezmichelaparis.com: I’ve communicated with the owner who is very helpful but unfortunately the dates we needed were not available when we wished to rent. I think you’ll find reviews here for this apartment as well. Good luck! |
Hi schnauzer:
Recently on the boards there was a wonderful posting from a someone named missdiasy. The post is called Trip Report - Paris (March 8-14. I don't know how to put thread links in this but if you type in Miss Daisy it will come up.....anyway, they stayed at an apartment through http://maraisflat.com/ They have really nice hig "high end" apartments with internet access, etc. The neighborhoods are really terrific and the prices look really reasonable for the quality. Also, FYI read missdaisy's thread, it is really a hoot!! Have a great trip |
