Paris apartment
Does any one have any specific recommendations for a 1-bedroom (or studio) apartment rental in Paris? Budget allows for no more than 800 euro/week. Please respond with address (as much as you remember) and website you found it on. If possible. Not as picky on district (1-8 would be great) but need a real bed (i.e not sofa) and a shower with either a door or curtain (if you know what i mean!)
Any help VERY much appreciated! Thanks to all! |
If you can go to 850 Euro this one might fill your needs. In fact depending on when you need it it can be less than 800E

This should fit your bill: a large studio near Marais, a real bed, a confortable living room, a large bathroom (with a curtain) AND a private garden. and the price is 675 Euro/week.

This is a great apartment, great location, has a real bed (separate bedroom), good shower, and a large living room. The price - 800€/week! |
vacationinparis.com #122...You can pull up my report by either typing in my name in the SEARCH box and scrolling...or by typing in Guenmai's Paris Apartment Rental Experience. I've written about the apartment I rented this past spring. Happy Travels!

Thanks all for the replies! An update: After discussing it with my husband, we've decided we want to stay in the Latin Quarter. The previous time we visited Paris we had only three days in town and stayed in the 2nd district. We LOVED it, but never got into the neighborhoods on the other side of the river (except the streets actually bordering the Seine) and since we'll have seven days, figure it would be a great way to delve into the left bank! So now we're looking for something in either the 5th or 6th.
Please keep the recommendations coming! VERY much appreciated! |
In addition to looking for apartments in the Latin Quarter we are also looking for ones with certain amenities - though they are not critical. In particular a clothes washer/dryer would be useful as we are trying to be more efficient travelers and are packing lighter. We notice a lot of the listings have a washer present but no dryer. My question regarding this is "Are these washers typically of the washer/dryer combination type or do many people only own a washer and dry their clothes outside?" Remember, our trip is in December and drying outside would be a challenge.

Look at www.parisbestlodge.com for several flats in the Latin Quarter. They seem to fit all of your requirements as far as cost, a real bed and shower door.
I have never stayed at any of their flats but came across them doing some research at slowtrav.com. Slowtrav has rental reviews so you can get opinions from people who have actually stayed there. |
Many people in Paris do own only a washer, so if it says that, assume it does not have a dryer. They don't necessarily dry clothes outsdie at all, though, they dry them inside on racks, hanging in the bathroom, etc. I have no idea what they do with things hard to dry (towels, sheets), but expect maybe they send those out or do them in laundromats.
|
Kugellager...You'll need an apartment near a laundromat if you want to use a dryer and especially since it's December and will be cold. It was cold when I was there this past March. I didn't use the washer, in the apartment that I rented though. I knew the laundromat was nearby if I had to use it which was one reason I booked the apartment that I did. Happy Travels!

Last year we stayed at the most perfect apartment in the St. Germaine des Pres area, on Rue St. Andres, a remarkable location!
It is a full one bedroom with a large living room, kitchen, bath and large hallway. The owner is Francine Carpon and she is very nice to work with. I checked with her before I posted this to see if it was available in Dec., and it is. You see, it is her private apartment, and is filled with gorgeous books, artwork, and the kitchen is equipped to whip up a gourmet meal. Last year, she even had coffee, butter, cream, plus all kinds of dry staples for us to use. We truly felt like we were Parisiennes when we were there. Everything you could possibly need is just steps away. The website is: www.perfectplaces.com/vacation-rentals/24752.htm Tell her Joyce recommended her place ( I'm still working on getting back there someday - it was really so terrific!) Good luck, and I'm so envious that you are going to Paris! |
We are renting this apt next summer. http://vacationinparis.com/apts/id_125.htm
I decided on it due to recommendations from people on several forums. |
Many of the washer units are also actually the dryers. It will, in fact wash, & then dry your clothes. Saves space, but they tend to dry very hot.

Back2Sabi and Kugellager:
We rented this apartment from vacationinparis last April. It's definitely a budget accommodation, but you just cannot beat the location. And the price was great. It did have a fold-out futon-type bed, rather than a couch. But if price is your main issue, I don't think you can beat it. We paid $772 for six nights. http://www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_108.htm Regarding washers/dryers: This was a big issue for me, as well, which was one of the reasons for choosing this apartment. However, after figuring out how long it would take to wash our stuff in that really small machine, we ended up just taking everything to the laundromat on the corner of Rue de Seine and Rue de Buci. In an hour, we had all our clothes washed and dried, and enjoyed a nice snack and drink while we were waiting. Enjoy your trips! I am having severe post-Europe melancholy. ;) I sure wish I had a trip in the works! |
Hello Back2SAbi,
If first impressions mean anything, then you should check out ParisBestLodge. The owner, Thierry, has been very very helpful with our upcoming planning. He responds immediately to emails and is very kind with his responses. Unfortunately, he closes his apartments during the month of August, so we cannot stay with him next year, but if you don't travel then it should be fine for you. Good luck with your planning, Michele |
Hi, Michelle,
Thanks so much for the tip on Thierry. We had fallen in love with his apartment in the 5th, but alas, it turns out it will not be available for the first day of our stay. So sad. He has two available in the Marais, but I think we've got our heart set on the 5th of 6th. (We want to try out life on the Left Bank... we were on the Right on our last trip to Paris!) I can not speak for his apartment, but I would give Thierry an A+ for communication! |

Back2Sabi,
I agree wholeheartedly! You can't imagine how crushed I was when last week, a full year ahead of our trip I emailed him with our dates and he told me he shut down his apartments to go on vacation in August. Just for reference...begging and pleading didn't work. I will definitely contact him in the future when we plan to go to Paris any other of the eleven months of the year. Good luck with your search, Michele |

Thierry is fantastic. Our apartment that we rented in June this year through him was without an ironing board. We mentioned it to Thierry and the next morning he arrived with one under his arm. My only distress is that I wasn't watching out the window as he came hurtling along the Blvd St Michel on his motor bike with it under his arm!! I still smile to think about it!!

Thanks for all the apartment tips and the info on what to expect with the washers. We appreciate the replies.

Good to hear positive feedbacks on Thierry of Paris Bestlodge. I am considering renting from him.

You can add my voice to the chorus of Thierry fans. We stayed in the studio on Rue du Rivoi, and we couldn't have been more pleased.
As others have mentioned, he's very responsive. On top of that, he did not require a large deposit when we booked the apartment. Rather, we sent him a check in our own currency which he held until we checked out. |
We've rented apartments before in London, not in Paris. I just have a question - are all of these rentals legal, unlike in NY where they typically are illegal sublets?
|
May I ask which one you finally chose?

We were most pleased with the apt we rented last month from Vacation in Paris. First off, their service is great, you can pay by credit card in US dollars and collect your FF miles, they send you a pdf file with all sorts of info. We were in apt #122 on rue St Andre des Arts , just a few steps from Pl. St Michel, with great transportation options. There is a bakery a few doors away, numerous restaurants , some great some good in a few block area.
The apt had nice living dining area, a good sized loft bedroom, and a bath and a half, so no climbing up to the loft when you just wanted to potty! Free WiFi, a washer, rack and iron and ironing board. I prefer to use the laundromat on rue de Seine as French washers take forever. I can put the stuff in to wash and go across the street to Paul to have breakfast, put the stuff in the dryer while we wander through the market stalls for 20 minutes while the stuff dries. One of the best things about VIP, they send you the keys to the apt before you leave so no waiting around for someone to let you in. It was a real blessing for us since our train from Antwerp was delayed 3 hours in Brussels because of some kind of disturbance further along the line |
Hi Everyone out there in cyberspace.
Keep the suggestions coming. (Most of what has been posted so far is fantastic but unavailable for the time I need.) I'm visiting Paris for a month in February (2nd to the 2nd of march) and am looking for a centrally located well priced apartment. Preferably to sleep 4. Our budget is 2000E maximum. (less if possible) |
Photobear,
We found a lovely place through VRBO and had a wonderful stay there two weeks ago. (VRBO #56871). A spacious (by Parisian standards) 1 bedroom had a great kitchen, nice sitting area and dining table, comfortable (through low) bed and a fantastic shower. Located in the 6th just two blocks from the Odeon metro and three from the river, the apartment was warm and welcoming after a day out seeing the sights. We ate breakfast and a few dinners at the apartment and found the kitchen to be very well stocked. (And we became addicted to the Nespresso machine.) The only drawback to the apartment was the toilet, which was not with the rest of the bathroom but in a tiny closet just off the living room. It made for a bit of a trek in the middle of the night and a bit weird otherwise. But a small price to pay for an otherwise very nice apartment. The owner was a dream to work with; we were allowed to bring a personal check as a deposit with us to the apartment. Her son met us at the apartment upon arrival, showed us how to use everything, answered all our questions about what was where in the neighborhood, etc. And then he stopped by the day before we left to return the deposit check. We loved having an internet connection and a washer/dryer, which allowed us to bring minimal clothes and carry on our luggage. Would definitely stay there again. |
