Paris

Hello,

We're going to Paris for a week in August. We plan to stay at rue Saint Maur, the question is what we can expect from this area ? is it easy to travel by bus or metro from this area ? Pls help.

You could enter your hotel's address in the PagesJaunes and see what the neighborhood looks like. Go to RATP and look at the Metro map to see how your service will be.

i second the advice for the ratp.fr site (the paris transit system). you can print out entire metro and bus maps, including the individual lines with each stop marked. plus, there's a "route finder" where you enter your starting and ending address - say, your hotel and sacre coeur - and it will tell you exactly which metro or bus (your choice) to take and how long it will take. it was invaluable in our planning as we wanted to take mostly buses, which always got us where we wanted to go with no changing.

you should have no trouble getting buses or the metro in the 7th.

have fun!

why did i think you were in the 7th? must have misread something.

anyway, pagesjaunes is fun to play with, too.

I loved the title though: "Paris"

I got as far as entering a hotel name in the pagesjaunes search engine, but all that came up was the search page again. Is there a secret to doing a search?

You must navigate to the France section and then click on "pages jaunes" in that list. Then you need to enter an address or street.

This is a "transitional" area. It has a great deal of charm in my opinion. We rented an apartment on Rue St. Maur for 2 weeks and loved the area. It's a "hip" pocket and you will find lots of things that reflect that. If it's still open, I recommend dinner at Le Bleu Homme on Jean Pierre Timbaud. It's great berber food. Cafe Charbon is here..filled with music. Astier is in this neighborhood as well also on Jean Pierre Timbaud. You will find a very reasonable and delcious discovery menu. Your metro stop is Parmentier. It is very easy to travel from this area to just about anyplace in Paris.
We only used the metro(and our feet). We felt very safe walking in the neighborhood as well. BTW, there is a very good grocery store on St. Maur called Attac or Attaque. Try the yogarts in the little glass jars.BTW..this is in the 11th.

If you are staying on Rue St Maur vs at Rue St Maur that might make a difference. I'm assuming you meant the Street.

You didn't say where on rue St. Maur you were staying, but if you look at the entire length of the street, there are quite a few nearby Metro stations. You should have no trouble getting anywhere you wish to go.

Try this web site. It's the photo section of Pages Jaunes. http://photos.pagesjaunes.fr/

Have a great time.
