So glad to hear from everyone! Katie and I will be leaving on the 9th also from SFO (on United) (we've already had one schedule change, so hope that will stand). Hope you will make it back from Mont St. Michele in time for Polidor, Susan -- would love to meet you and your family. And Mary C, Monday should work for us at Angelina's. Looking forward to meeting you, too -- I enjoy all of your posts. Suki, it will be Katie's and my first trip to Paris, also. Even with all that is going on, I feel so lucky to be going. If it works out that none of us is able to meet up the other, at least it will be so nice to know we're all there enjoying the city, and it will be great to share our experiences when we get back. I do hope to meet all of you -- it would make the experience even richer.

Kathleen ([email protected])

Hey, Suki!

Is 2pm good for you as well or am I being too presumptuous?
|
All of you going to Paris folks-have a GREAT time!! Would you do me a favor?
Please tell me all about the tea that you had? And, I mainly mean the FOOD that was part of the "tea". I am curious if they serve little sandwhiches, pastries, etc.
Since I'm not getting to go that is the LEAST you could do!!! (lol)
Thank you!!!
Shadow
|
Shadow I will do that. I'm going to 5 places for tea in Paris, I think, with a wide range of afternoon tea experience. : D Of course, you could go to Laduree's or Angelina's website to see what they serve. The Ritz doesn't really explain, just says "tea sandwiches".

Hi Beatchik,

My husband has just about every minute of our trip planned. I think he has the Louvre scheduled for Monday afternoon, but he says we may go to Angelina's before or after, or leave the Louvre and then return. The last option, if practical, would probably make 2 PM fine with us. Wish I could commit, but I am just not sure. Hope to see you there though!
Lisa
Hi to Everybody who may meet up either at the POLIDOR on Saturday night at 7:30
or at ANGELINA'S Monday at 2PM. How are we going to recognize each other?
We are rethinking our day trip to MONT ST MICHEL so will probably be in Paris on Saturday the 12th and can possibly meet for dinner. Surely we won't be wearing our white tennies or baseball caps! I am usually dressed in black for blending purposes! :-) How about you? Susan
|
Hello Susan (and anyone else who is thinking of Le Polidor/Angelina's) my daughter is 5'3" with long blond hair, and I am 5'7 with shorter blond hair and squarish brown glasses. We'll probably both be wearing black as well. Maybe we should wear red carnations over our right ears? (just kidding ;-) Kathleen
|
Message to Kathleen: Well, as I have already posted about my being on the
plus-size and have reddish hair and wear tortoise shell framed glasses I guess I won't be hard to spot. My daughter is thin, olive complextion with dark curly hair which she usually wears up. My hubby will be with us also, handsome Latin man! Hope to spot you there! Susan

Hello all! I had "lost" this post. What a nice surprise to find it again.
Pumpkin is "Jean" from Seattle. Megan and I will try to make it Saturday to Le Polidor. To answer someone's question, this will be my 3rd trip to Paris, but Megan's 1st. We have a lovely apartment near Rue Mouffetard.

There is so many neat things to do in Paris and believe me going to Angelina's is on the list! The wait in line is worth it!

Megan and I are enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu for their Paris Market Tour & Demonstration the day before (Friday the 11th) and are really excited about that experience!

Perhaps we should wear a blue ribbon on our lapels so we can recognize each other?

Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected].

Jean
|
Pumpkin aka Jean: the blue ribbon sounds good to me. Hope to see you all at LE POLIDOR. By the way, did you know that this restaurant was featured on the Food Network's show called
$40 a day? It must be a great place and I was pleasantly surprised when I made the connection. Great choice! Susan
|
Sad, sad news! Megan is sick and can't go to Paris. I am so disappointed, but not as much as she is! She has mononucleosis, and sleeps all the time--no energy!

I am still coming to Paris, but taking a girlfriend instead. Some graduation present, huh?

I am curious to know more about Le Polidor--what kind of prices or specialties--anything at all you could share would be appreciated.

Jean
|
Message to Jean aka Pumpkin: So sorry to hear about Megan getting ill but glad to see that you are still making the trip! I went to the website for
FoodNetwork and searched for $40 a day
to get info on Le Polidor but not much was mentioned. I was hoping to find a lunch or dinner menu posted. Ohwell, I am sure it was good and priced reasonably! Susan

Jean, glad you are coming, sorry about your daughter -- I had mono when I was her age, and it was no fun. Here's what Paris for Dummies says about Le Polidor:
"This has been the quintessential Left Bank Bistro for about 150 years. Perpetually crowded with people sitting elbow to elbow in a vivid atmosphere surrounded by wood, mirrors, and lace curtains, the cooking is earthy and homemade, with all desserts and ice creams made on the premises. Begin with a spinach salad with nut oil, followed by solid plates of rognons en madere (veal kidneys in madeira), blanquette de veau, boeuf bourguignon, or ragout of pork. Save room for one of the array of fresh tartes and pies. Main courses $7-$10.85" (2001)

So it's inexpensive, atmospheric, historic, and apparently has pretty good food -- no stars, but there are other opportunities for that, oui? I also read another article that said they're famous for their andouiette (sp?)sausages. Found this website, too, with an exterior and interior photo: http://www.terrace.qld.edu.au/academ...s/rueindex.htm

The blue ribbon thing sounds great. Should I make reservations for 7 under Kathleen, or would you rather play by ear?
|
Jean, I too am sorry to hear about your daughter. My girlfriend then, wife now, came down with Mono three days before she was going to France when she was in High School and had to miss the trip. The good news, we are leaving for Paris in two weeks and she assures me she will be well for this trip. I guess what I am trying to say is there will be other trips for her once she is well. Have a great trip!!
|
Kathleen, Yes make a reservation for 7. My friend will be with me. I e-mailed you privately. Did you receive it? I am willing to give you my phone # in Paris, in the event there is any change. I leave Tuesday so either answer my e-mail or post here soon. Looking forward to it.

My friend is thrilled to be getting a "free" ticket! (this will be her 1st trip).

Jean
|
Message to KATHLEEN: Please count us in as well, there are 3 of us! We are staying in the 7th so Le Polidor sounds wonderful and convenient to walk to. We
are looking forward to meeting you, your daughters as well as Jean aka Pumpkin and her friend.

Message to Pumpkin aka Jean: which phone number in France do you give? The hotel number? Thanks because I would also give this info to Kathleen to confirm everything is a go for Saturday, April 12 at 7:30pm. Oh, this is so great! Susan
|
I do not want to put the phone # in this public forum--it is to my apartment. But I would provide it to you Susan and Kathleen, if you give me your e-mail address. Mine is [email protected].

Jean
|
To Pumpkin: my email address is:

[email protected]
|
I sent the phone # to you Suzy--had already sent it to Kathleen (don't know if she received the e-mail). How about letting me know what hotel you are staying in and/or phone # so we can check with one another if plans change, etc.

Is it going to be at 7 or 7:30?

Jean
|
Hello Jean: I received your France phone number and have sent you our hotel information as well as their phone number to your email address.
The reservation Kathleen is making I believe is at 7:30 Ppm at Le Polidor.
I think there will be a total of 7 of us getting together Saturday. Have a wonderful flight and see you in Paris!
Susan
