Packing question for Paris..velvet?

I know it's a silly question but.......does anyone have an opinion of packing velvet? I love my black jacket, would go well for dinners, dress up or down...but I've never packed it. Please don't jump all over me but is there a secret for not crushing velvet in your suitcase! Sorry...but thanks!

On a hanger, folded up with the plastic covering from the dry cleaners.

RonZ is right on, if you dry clean them, then just stick them in the luggage with the plastic bags, and they will be fine, but why would you be concerned about a velvet jacket "crushing?" I have 3 velvet coats and a jacket -and they are very hardy-I never have to worry about them getting wrinkled when I put them in a suitcase!

I would turn it inside out (with the sleeves on the inside) and pack it in the the dry cleaning bag. Fold it in half and put it in the suitcase last. It should hang out nicely once you arrive.

I have frequently packed velvet items including a jacket of DH's - I just fold each piece as normal & they have always arrived uncreased. Velvet seems to travel better than other materials IME.

You could wear it on the plane?

djkbooks Oct 2nd, 2007 07:35 AM

I never want to wear anything again before washing it once worn on the plane.

Wow, again you come to my rescue! I thought the jacket may fold & get a permanent crease, sort of like a hair part! Great, it is going in my suitcase & I'll wear it to Les Ombres in Paris on our 20th anniversay. Thanks guys :-)
