Thank you, guys, my head is spinning from mix of emotions after reading all this?
Beth23, I do buy Redken from Beauty Salons when I run through the Mall.
You can type it in search and get for exactly the same price from Internet.
Never discountedL

Ok, lady?s?now I am so confused mainly because I look fabulous in my linen capris being plus size and I am the biggest fashion critic if it comes to funny dressed people.
So, my favorite to walk around the house is 14 y/old t-shirt.
When I go out my shoes are VIA SPIGA though I do not own any jewelry, I can?t stand it. Very irritating ! Yes, I am a neurotic. I live between Bloomingdale?s, Macy?s and Strawbrige?s ? literally, I walk there.
And THE funniest thing- Bloom?s has white Trench coats now, I tried one and thought even it looked good on me ? I wouldn?t want to be mistaken for a doctor and be waked up for emergency. So, I passed?
What bothers me is that I will dress up and put makeup on and get out happy ? and then in couple of hours if weather is hot with all this walking and sightseeing and chasing kids ? what am I going to look like in white coat and make up ? Laugh all you want, because I would !!!
So, I am still leaning toward ?some? sporty ?elegant, when good (very good looking) sneakers will be paired up with jean pants (light weight fabric that flows) and vivid color top ? something like that. Then I want black shoes and my cashmir pant ansambel with my black soft coat ?
O darn ! It is Gemini thing I guess ? tough to decide.
I do appreciate all the responces and I see it as our girly time together and I enjoyed reading it so much and I do take some tips from you Wizards.
I am sure you will LYAO after I return and tell you all about it.

Yes, ofcourse I bought band-aids, just forgot to mention J))

Yeah, yesterday my daughter was offered her first job in TV commercial and they plan to shoot on April,6 and we are going to be in Paris this day.
Please, tell me it worth it !!! and there going to be more...I was taking chill pills over it

Ziana Mar 25th, 2004 05:24 AM

Oak Traveler, dear, my DH asked how do you obtain those bottles if you haven't been on Internatinal flight before?
And what can you use instead :)))
Isn't it hillarious?
I am beyound myself this morning,
somebody stop me !!!

OaktownTraveler Mar 25th, 2004 09:15 AM

Wasn't that a GREAT laugh at Oaktown's expense?
Good thing she can afford it! WINK

Seriously,now...is everyone feeling better?

Great!

I will add white trench coat to the list of Fodor Packing no-no's.

Anyone who reads my post know I kan't spell nuthin! That includeds deziners 2. It's my posting luxury.

Z- The small bottles of wine or champagne are bought at Cost Plus.
Those other tiny bottles of alcohol are usually behind the counter at any corner liquor store.

(GASP...she goes to the corner liquor store...NOT!giggle)

I say let's keep this fun.

No need to take this further out of context...harmless cyber questions with
harmless cyber answers/input/experiences/lifstyles and the like.

The diversity in personalities, fashion and all is wonderful...keep packing and keep traveling!

Scarlet - Must defend myself on the "size thing." I had crept up to about a size 10 over the past few years, but have been dieting like a fiend and am back to a size 6, thank you very much. :)

I usually travel for nearly 3 weeks at a time, often solo, so there's no one but me to carry my luggage. A 22" rollaboard and a tote must therefore suffice.

I don't like to wear the same top more than once without its being laundered. Even if it *looks* clean, it doesn't feel fresh to me, so I wash it. I'm also an unfortunate "spiller," so more often than not they need it anyway!

CarolA Mar 25th, 2004 12:36 PM

I missed something. We are now packing our own booze????

Since you have now broken FAA travel regulations, pack a lot. There is always the "off chance" that the Flight Attendant will have you arrested for this charming behavior.

Personally, I can't understand why people who have Chanel suits custom made don't fly in First Class where the booze is free. (Maybe we are looking for Boone's Farm here?)

This is so much fun.

Ziana,
Personally I think you have to make a decision and you seem confused so it is hard to give advice. On one had you claim to want to pack light. On the other we have the packing list with stuff coming out the....
For example, we have Camera/Cam/casettes. What is this? How many cameras and batteries do you need? Revo Style brush.... Got to go... Let me warn you some of these american hair appliances are useless even with the adapter and voltage converter. My first curling iron went up in smoke! I now have a European voltage one.

OaktownTraveler Mar 25th, 2004 02:44 PM

Glad your having fun!

Guess you gotta have a glass of Boones Farm to party like you do.

Great. GRIN.

Yes, something is missing...

But, if you remove the TON of green envy and red jealous baggage...maybe you would learn that no such FAA or TSA regulation exist.

Don't hate.

Try getting up and out more...that might help too. But, if you must, search the Fodor threads for the many discussions about alcohol and travel and the like.

Maybe not having the facts coming from me, you might calm down and become a tad bit more civil.

Anyway...for how long... oh say, centuries?... folks have traveled and toured with there own "refreshments".

Hence, there is this silver or platinum thing called a FLASK? Yes, I think that would be one of the items...

That TRAVEL HISTORY information aside...

Good luck with not blowing out those travel curling irons...must be the low grey matter or the dim witted I mean dim wattage...

Best Wishes,
Oaktown Traveler

Drinking your own alcohol isn't allowed, although it's not entirely clear to me whether that's airline policy or a Federal regulation.

In any case, it makes sense to me, since there are enough problems with "air rage" and inappropriate behavior when the flight attendants are theoretically controlling consumption.

OaktownTraveler Mar 25th, 2004 03:02 PM

Well, I heard this today from a group of adolescent girls who were debating some benign topic while talking about another girl. It fits:

"WHATEVER!"

Everyone who drinks on a plane is not a problem. Some who do not drink are problematic...

The next thing I saw was also fitting..one girl flipped her full hand up toward the face of the others...she then turned on her heels and tossed her hair with the other hand.

THE END!

CarolA Mar 25th, 2004 03:41 PM

Oaktown Traveler,
You give yourself WAY too much credit, but at least I am laughing. Hope you have a good day with the Boone's Farm.

WHATEVER!

Vera Mar 25th, 2004 03:49 PM

Such fabulous advice! I've made lots of notes. Can't believe I actually came up with a few more things...

To make sure you get a good nights sleep...A travel size down filled pillow squeezes down to nothing and helps compensate for rock hard pillows. Large safety pins or a couple of spring clothes pins to close the hotel drapes that always seem to fall open. A sleep mask and ear plugs (or get ear planes if the plane pressure bothers you. They really work.)
If you're washing things out--use a little shampoo or pour some woolite into a small plastic bottle. If you're using a laundromat, take some of the round detergent tablets in a plastic bag.
I ALWAYS carry a liter of water on the plane. It's dry as a desert on there, and just when you want a drink of water the hostesses are somewhere else.
I agree about leaving the tp at home. Took some on my first trip to Europe, from then on took the small packs of kleenex tucked in every corner of the suitcase. Can double if you need soft tp.
I don't understand needing gell AND hair spray AND the Redkin.
We only take a couple sample size shampoos in case the hotel doesn't have any, but they almost always do. Even in Cambodia, the hotel had a small soap, a shampoo and a toothbrush and toothpaste!
I'm traveling the same time as you--in Germany, Austria and Hungary. Watching weather.com and getting concerned about the cold and the rain. So on the clothes front, I'm taking turtlenecks rather than t-shirts and thermal underwear to wear under my slacks. Not to mention a down jacket that zips into a waterproof jacket.

Shes means "those small bottles of wine from Cost Plus for the plane" called Sutter Home. Those are the only small bottled wines worth displaying at bins by the check-out counters at Cost Plus. These are the same $0.75 brand of screw-cap wines that homeless bums at lower Mission Street would refuse.

When one recommends "I would add anti-bacterial hand solutions. This may/may not be the Purell that was mentioned.", I seriously doubt if this poster ever had one before.

Zianna: I seriously hope for your and your husband's sake that you pack light.

OaktownTraveler Mar 25th, 2004 04:27 PM

you have been reported.

CarolA Mar 25th, 2004 04:44 PM

WHATEVER! I did think of one thing that I use that is not on the original list. Blisterblock or moleskin. While my shoes are normally very broken in, better safe then sorry. I use to buy the "pre-cut" moleskin, but I can't find it anymore so I cut my own into various shapes and sized before I leave. (Come to think of it a bandaid might be good in case you cut yourself shaving.)

I would also dump the shaving cream for women, just use soap or lotion. they work.

I still don't get the bringing of wine or a "flask". Yes, when I was in college I hid booze in my purse for football games, but after a certain point..... However, now it appears we have all been reported. Do you think it will appear on my "permanent record"? Maybe I should join the witness protection program.

happytourist Mar 25th, 2004 07:06 PM

I think you've forgotten one VERY important item: a compass. Those streets in Europe run all sorts of crazy directions and a map without a compass is just a frustration. Also, go to your health insurance website, download their instructions for overseas health care and carry it with you at all times. Finally, for those small packages of Imodium or Dulcolax (which I've never needed but always carry because European pharmacies have short hours), buy them at a dollar store where you can get a small amount cheaply.

cailin Mar 26th, 2004 12:27 AM

I never drink alcohol on flights...you get dehydrated enough when you're in the air! 02 all the way for me...I can save the alcohol till I land!

Ziana Mar 26th, 2004 04:21 AM

What is the FLASK ?

OK, Wizards. I AM intend to pack light.
All I mentioned is paked into 3 small see=through bags.
I am still not sure about clothes, though.
I will adventually pack I think. And I will keep it minimum. After all I only have as much luggage as I have, right :)?
And my DH is not a very "happy shlepper", so I will have to manage light...somehow. May be I'll leave his clothes at home.
By Monday I should be packed and I will report to the same thread, promise.
For those who didn't get about BYOB - Oak Traveler explained it to me that YOB need to "be ahead" - why wait until they will "give" when you can "get". I don't know if in First Class they "give" right away...

Oh, it is too funny!

I will probably get stoned at the bar before flight anyway :)))))))))
(watch for people who know regulations, here they come with nasty post)

I will take flash light, allright. I do not really understand why, but I am very good rule follower whan I choose to.
And yes, I need my Charmin Ultra Soft, don't you, guys ?
Was shopping for Pashmina yesterday.
You have to KNOW how to wear it though. I am affraid I wil choke myself or trip over it. Sorry, I loved quality though.

Oak Traveler, how was yesterday meeting. What did you drink for me ?

ezlivin Mar 26th, 2004 04:58 AM

Cailin:
O2? Every human being on this earth need oxygen whether in an airplane or not. I don't usually ask for clarification if it was a typo, but did you mean H2O, as in water ? Or did you really mean O2 (as in oxygen only) as a substitute for alcohol ?

PMSL!! I really should be a blonde!! I did, of course, mean H20! LOL oh well....it was early when I wrote that! *blush*

*feels very stupid indeed!!*

"Maybe I'll leave his [DH's] clothes at home."

There you go! There's a solution for every problem. This seems to be the most sensible one so far!

Great thread! :)
