Most Americans who are Jean Gabin fans will know Arletty from the film, "Le Jour de Leve'(daybreak). she started out as a Poiret fashion model and many stars today steal her quote, paraphrasing; "The theater is my luxury, the cinema, my pocket money."
There are 100 gold franc note with her image, worth today in the thousands.

hey, I saw one of those gold coin francs in a collectors shop. So many like Chanel had German lovers. It was the norm in France. Survival said it all. Sartre was another one who collaberated with the nazi. And Picasso.

Is Jim Morrison (of the Doors) grave
still crowdwed with hippies hanging out?

Gilbert Becaud (1927-2001) was a singer who wrote 400 chansons. He was very popular in France. Even Chirac was there when Becaud was buried in Pere-Lachaise.

Thank-you! I was mistaken. The singer was a man! The last answer was what I was searching for. Thanks so much!

Gilbert Becaud (1927-2001) was a singer who wrote 400 chansons. He was very popular in France. Even Chirac was there when Becaud was buried in Pere-Lachaise.

Oh my, I am glad 'we' have got it.

And, Becaud was definitely a man,
'Monsieur 100.000 volts' as we call him.
Stopped by to visit Jim Morrison's resting place in October. Passed about 6-8 people, all of us trying to locate it. Got there, had a small crowd of maybe dozen nearby, plus 2 security guards. No one looked like a 'hippie', and many weren't even born when Jim was popular. It's just the thing to do when at Pere LaChaise. I still haven't made it to the high side of the cemetery, maybe next time.
So far, the tomb for Heloise and Abelard is the most beautiful, but the Raspail's widow reaching into his tomb is also very moving.
