Thanks, Joan, very nice Catherine took the time to reply. One look at the space and it was apparent there was very little flexibilty to do any major changes.

Changes would have spoiled an historic room that I believe is 150+ years old. The tables, by the way, are comfortable and don't feel cramped.

It was very warm the day we went but I have about an 8 F degree comfort zone so am hard to please!

You have to get yourself down here to try it out, it's literally between two of Toulouse's nicest hotels.

Hi,

I will not find anything this trip better than what I found today!! I had nvever been to l'os a moelle, so do not know what it was like before. I could tell that it had obviously been re-modeled!

I hesitate to mention it becuase it will be destroyed! Lovely in every way. I counted seating for 40. I visited with Stephane before and after and told him how great it really is! He learned well from Christian and just what a good restaurant needed to look like. He also has the cave across the street. The name has changed:

Schmidt
l’os a moelle

Good for him! This is on the door and the cards are as above with the restaurant on one side and the cave on the other.

So easy to get to. The 42 bus stops across the street.

I will post pictures later as I know many are just anxious to hear about the restaurant. A real bargain, too! It was excellent..but why not, I have been eating Stephane's cooking for years at Violon!

I will be making more reservations for others during my stay..Sue, for sure..Denise, you should put on your list with your friends(if they appreciate good food)and/or we might put a group together when you are here and go?? Lilia and Tom..we are going!!

Joan,

Can't wait to hear about l'Os a Moelle. Just bought our tickets to Paris for December on Sunday. Did you need reservations for lunch?

wow that looks so good! I have to start laying out all of the lunch and dinner reservations, so I can see what we have and where we have openings. It's almost a full time job to get it all straight and we will only be there for a week.

cornelius01 Oct 18th, 2011 08:58 AM

Would we have to take a bus to get there from Kir? is it still in 7th?
Looks delicious! Must put that on our list.
Thanks for all the great tips.

gracejoan3 Oct 18th, 2011 09:15 AM

cornelius,

It is in the 15th..just south of the 7th. You just hop on the #42 bus at corner of Rapp/Bourdonnais/St. Dominique..1 block from the Kir. It will take you to a bus stop across the street from the restaurant...Vasco de Gama-Lourmel stop...

Denise,

I printed out a calendar for Oct/Nov/Dec and put what I knew of with people coming and going and the reservations that I had and then have added since here.

You will need to do that for your week to see what/where for you!!

I stopped into Flrt The after returning from lunch and visited with Florent. Told them about it and said to let me know when we will go for dinner!! I know they will like it!

Just look at my calendar and tomorrow I will be down there, too..Le Beurre Noisette...will see what it is like....

Florent and Michael are busy planning their trip to US next summer...

Joan,

We land on the 22nd of December and fly home on the 29th so we have 7 nights. I am still thinking about where to go for Christmas dinner. I am probably going to follow your advice and try one of the hotels you have mentioned. We are in a friend's apartment in the 15th so we can stay in if we need to, but it is Paris and Christmas and we will porbably want to go out. Maybe we could try the L'As a Moelle on December 23. Waht do you think? I am afraid to try the 24th. I am not sure if Paris is all shut down on Christmas Eve or not. We may go again the following week. Last time we wanted to go again and never made it. thank you for your help.

Joan isn't it nice how things seem to stay in the C.C. family of disciples, which is a pretty good indicator that a place will be good. I checked back to my 1st photos of l'Os à Moëlle in 2002 when Thierry Faucher, who trained under C.C. at the Crillon started it and the floor tiles and wall colors are new, but the classic champagne bar as well as tables and chairs are the same. I like that Chef Schmidt now uses table cloths at a bistro this reasonably priced. Thanks for the update.

That quail dish at L'os a moelle looks absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing your travel adventures with us.

Dear Joan,
Can't wait to have lunch at Chef Schmidt's - Tom would love that scallop dish... The quail looks wonderful! Fruit desserts are always the best to end a beautiful meal.....
I'm in and will send you an email.
bisous,
Lilia

Well, if you can't be in Paris to taste, see and smell, then the next best thing is to read Joan's experiences. Merci beaucoup, Joan.

Looks like I have a new place to try on my next visit. The pics from L'os a Mouelle are enough to bring me in. I liked the dish with the sparse broccoli which becomes transformed by that luscious, silky sauce. Yum. Couldn't help but notice the lovely silver Taittinger's bowl at the entrance. Did they put it there especially for you?

cigalechanta Oct 18th, 2011 06:03 PM

Why is it I'm always hungry after reading a Joan in Paris thread :)

gracejoan3 Oct 19th, 2011 01:39 AM

I am off to the 15th again today. I have a 1:00 reservation at Beurre Noisette. It is down the street from yesterday.

I was out for a croissant and cafe creme and pickked up a carnet of bus tickets at the tabac. Will use them until Nov 1 and I will then re-charge my Navigo for the month of November

A bit of a cool breeze this morning...bright sunshine!

I will let you know what I find later today..

Joan, I always love following your trips to Paris. Thanks so much for taking the time to let the rest of us live vicariously through your travels.

There is a Paris GTG in the works for the first week of October 2012 and I'd love your input on dining possibilities. When you have a chance can you touch base with me at amwosu at aol dot com?

I have returned from lunch. I had to check the price from yesterday as I did not remember. Bith days I had starter, plat, dessert, 1 glass of wine and cafe creme.

Can't believe it both were £39.50! Absolutely no comparison, atmosphere, tablecloths, service food....just everything. No way would I pass up Schmidt for Beurre Noisette!! I will send pics later!!
