Yes - Mykonos Blue in Mykonos (obv) is fabulous 5 star luxury. Also Hotel Akroyiali (on Plati Yialos) is lovely, with pretty gardens and a great Italian restaurant. It has its own beach (rare for Mykonos) and has a pier where boats leave for Paradise Beach and Super Paradise beach (the ones with the bars/DJs)

Princess of Mykonos is lovely, outside Myk.Town. Very nice rooms and public areas, young, friendly staff, good buffet breakfast, pool, and super restaurant on site. Heartily recommend.

Both Conde Nast Travler and my brother-in-law are huge fans of Perivolas in Santorini -- www.perivolas.gr

I like Vedema in a village outside of Thera on Santorini, but it is obviously not on the Caldera, and in Mykonos Santa Marina again outside of the main town.

Joe-

Visted Mykonos and Santorini summer of 2000. Without a doubt Mykonos Blu is the place to stay on Mykonos. Luxury hotel overlooking a beautiful bay with private beach. Fabulous infinity pool that overlooks the sea. Rooms are clean, modern and tastefully decorated in a mediterrean theme. Stayed for 5 nights, can't wait to go back. Service was great and the buffet breakfast offered something for everyone.
Santorini stayed at Las Perivolas worth every penny. The view was beyond belief. Staff very friendly. For 1st time trip to Santorini you definately want to stay on the Caldera.

We stayed in Santorini at the Villa Vedema in July. Wonderful hotel, our 2 bdrm villa could not have been nicer, great food and staff!

We stayed the first week of August at Esperas in Ia, Santorini. The most romantic place we have ever stayed. Beautiful, each room with its own terrace, walk down the hill for seafood lunches at the "town" of Ammoudi, wonderful staff. Room 121 has a gorgeous terrace!
Darcie

My husband and I went to Santorini as part of our honeymoon in August. We stayed at the Volcano View Villas and loved it. The views are amazing and they have a pool right on the caldera. Don't even consider not staying on the caldera. The only drawback is the lack of transport. There is a courtesy bus that runs into Fira every couple of hours but otherwise you need to rent a scooter/car. We didn't find this a big problem but some people might.

We really enjoyed the Hotel Leto in Mykonos. It overlooks the bay in the town and is close to shops, restaurants, and nightlife, yet it is private and quiet. They have a nice private pool too. Have a great time!

Lyndel, I was happy to read your good review of VVV; we stayed there in '97, and had the same positive thoughts about it. Rarely hear it mentioned on this site and have wondered why. I cannot imagine a more spectacular view of the caldera.

Stay in Ia, Santorini not Fira. Best hotel Katikes or Perivolas

Atlantis Villas. Just returned from a 4 night stay there. Excellent view, rooms, location and the most impressive, the service.

Anita Sep 29th, 2002 04:33 AM

Just made reservations for Katikies in Oia and Belvedere in Mykonos. I feel that if I want to go to Fira I can catch the bus while runs frequently, or hire a taxi. In Mykonos I want to stay in town.

byron Sep 29th, 2002 09:29 AM

Anita, you will love the Katikies. We didn't stay there this time and opted for Atlantis Villas because we heard the private balcony/terrace was not private. When we went to visit Katikies, that definitely was the case. However, it is beautiful. Enjoy, you will truly love the view.

garynfla Sep 29th, 2002 11:39 AM

Anita, based on my research it looks like you made two great choices. I plan on checking both places out when I get there next week. I always love looking at all the options so when I go back a second trip I get to stay someplace I have a had a year to dream about. When are you going? I will be posting reports dailt from my trip starting Oct 2..So close, can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

rob mccoist Sep 29th, 2002 11:40 AM

for Mykonos is Hotel Rochari in the town district of the same name. Find it at:-

http://www.rochari.com

rob

Anita Sep 29th, 2002 01:34 PM

Bryon,

I won't mind about the balcony not being private as I will be traveling alone. Also, it will be great having a queen size bed - not a tiny, single one.

Gary,

Going next spring - I know it's a long way off, but I get neurotic and have to make plans in advance. I am looking forward to your posting while you are there. It will give me a lot to look forward to.

Joe;
We just stayed at Grotto Villas in Santorini.120 euros for the Villa in Fira facing The Caldera.A beautiful view from every window of the villa.Great staff,George the Manager is extremely knowledgable and helpful. In Mykonos we stayed at Hotel Poseidon.Paid 85 euros with breakfast and any kind of entertainment you can iamgine they have it at their huge clubhouse.Extremely clean with a balcony facing the water, fridge and tv and a nice bathroom. The breakfast buffet was very nice too.You can walk to town since it's right behind it.Highly recommend both.Feel free to email us for further questions.

Hi Joe,

I have two strong recommendations for Santorini. I prefer to stay in the village of Oia. I've stayed at Atlantis Villas, which is great... nice views, quiet, great service, and we had a really nice big room. However, it is about a 20 min. walk to the center of Oia where most of the restaurants and shops are.

The following year, we stayed in Oia again, but at Fanari Villas (www.fanarivillas.gr) and it was incredible. It's above the Ammoudi fishing harbour, near Esperas Villas which Darcie mentioned... however Fanari is a little higher up, and I think offered a bit of a better view. It was incredibly private, romantic... and they brought our breakfast to our terrace each morning. The staff was extremely helpful and I just could not get over the view here. The convenience was a big difference for me, compared to Atlantis Villas. It was about a 5 min. walk to the main shops and restaurants.

Carol Oct 20th, 2002 04:21 PM

...one more thing I forgot to mention: Fanari has a "cave pool" built halfway into the side of the cliff, and halfway hanging out in the open. Also, there's a jacuzzi in there. Check out the pictures on their website. It was great!

We stayed at Atlantis Villas in Santorini and loved it. The service, the view, the caldera. Just great.
