I really wonder why it seems that Italy has been picked as the bad place for Americans to go.

As far as the consular announcements, well I am on their mailing list and in the 7 years I have lived here (in Italy) I have gotten about 1 every 2 months. So that would be about 42 announcements. I have never felt the need to worry. I know that they do these things for whatever political reasons but it is an announcement, not a ban on travel. I think this type of announcement would go for anywhere right now. I would feel much more nervous if I lived back in the states as my house is right near the Golden Gate Bridge.

I think a little bit of caution is needed today everywhere but also there is no need to panic. There are more than enough Americans in Italy. People are still traveling and enjoying La Dolce Vita!
