Travelerjan, thanks for the info and links. You're right about correcting my geography for Naxos. We may take the bus and sleep one night in Filoti, then hike up Zas (Zefs).

I also enjoyed LollyPeter's multi-sensorial impressions on Webshots; but when it comes to higher resolution images, I prefer http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=naxo...z=t&page=5

Tableronde, Quite agree that the flickr pix are stunning professionally ... they are individual images and gorgeous as separate entities.

The stanbr group is more a narrative that powerfully conveys the experience of being on that particular island ... right down to boarding the ferry and the flapping greek flag that frames the last view of the port. A different intent -- both achieving their aims.

I am sorry you did not have an opportunity to experience To Kastro. Normally their menu is heavy on Egplant from the oven lamb and fresh fish. We have actually found Soulous out at the beach waiting to meet the fisherman to purchase the fresh catch of the day.

I have had a long and nerve wracking negotiation with Lollypeter and managed to liberate the the credit card for a quick visit to the store where I have been able to upgrade the 3 megapixels in the 2006 album to 8 megapixels. We will be back in Naxos in June 2009 and I trust that will solve the resolution issue on our next webshots album.

Looking forward to your trip report.

Stanbr,
I should give you credit for authoring the nice slide show referenced above.

But then who is LollyPeter, who shows up as the owner of this image set on Webshots? maybe an option to upload your vacation images over a low bandwidth in Greece?

I've been spoiled by www.Flickr.com , a Canadian product bought out by Yahoo. You'd be able to store your show there at a much better resolution; plus a lot of extra authoring, storing and retrieval tools.

Have you tried to compare capabilities?

travelerjan Sep 1st, 2008 05:07 AM

But we must also take into consideration the capabilities of lollypeter... right, stanbr?

P.S. Maybe my question above is addressed by another thread on Fodor. Some travelers mentioned wanting to upload and share their images with friends and family even before getting home.
I'm willing to wait to get home, looking for the newer and novel photo-album implementations in the long run, by several criteria. I've looked at Yahoo Flickr, Google Panoramio or Picasa, Webshots, Olympion, Concierge, even Microsoft's new 3D Photosynth.

Tableronde thanks for your comments on our pictures. We have had over 70,000 hits on our Greece pictures on Webshots but better technology should always be considered.
Stanbr is the Fodors correspondent and photographer. Lollypeter is my technical expert and patient editor also my wife of 33 years, this week. She has agreed to look at your suggestions and see if the improved resolution makes sense to upgrade the pictures. Its the best I can hope for since I am unable to do the technical stuff.
