I found this discussion a couple of weeks ago and laughed hugely -- Thought you all might enjoy this article out of today's Wall Street Journal, which ties in to it nicely. I now know too much about the betting process there in Britain, due to this poor fellow's betting on the snowfall at Christmas over multiple postal codes. Hope you enjoy!

Were you in the WI calendar?>>
regretably not, CW. I think that such things are a bit racey for Cornwall WIs where according to the reports of their meetings in our local rag, the most exciting it seems to get is a pasty-making competition. there was a great calandar published by the Newlyn fisherman a few years ago. it's amazing what you can cover up with a sardine. |
I'd need a halibut. (although in this recent cold weather an anchovy would probably do).
We're not allowed to make them calendars (not that I'd be asked in any case - "Fat coppers of the met" doesn't sound like a big seller does it?) |
It was here yesterday as well but all is back to normal today, thank goodness.

You'd be amazed at what there's a market for, albeit a rather specialised one. They'd sell a few in a certain bar in London Bridge, for instance. |
