I may have over-generalized about no ferries on holidays, but it would be worth keeping in mind so you don't get stranded. Check ahead using www.gtp.gr and www.openseas.gr. 2008 Schedules on these websites for next summer won't begin to show up until April or May, but the FC4 schedule will appear earlier as I've already stated.

Thank you!! This information helps immensely. It can get a bit overwhelming to try to plan these trips when there are unknowns.

jadestanley,
You are indeed correct about the ferries on the route in question.
All ferries are not large at all. A good example is the Dodecanese islands where the vast majority of vessels are very small catamarans/hydrofoils and ferries, something like 90% of island connections will be done on these, not on the large ferries. The same can be said for the North Sporades islands.

Also the peak summer months July/August are the worst for winds, the Meltemi. Indeed as you know and any regular traveller through the Aegean islands knows about this.

The FlyingCat 4 is a small catamaran, NOT one of the larger ones.
In the Cyclades many small ferries/catamarans do inter-island routes from companies such as NEL and SAOS, Small Cyclades line (the Skopelitis ferry was replaced by the Express Skopelitis many years ago, not a lot better, but there you go...), but they are all very useful. However in rough weather they are indeed a nightmare.

I'm afraid people are misleading you about the ferries. I have been going Greek Island hopping for around 30 years.
