Allow me to attempt an explanation.

* Suki was responding to NYTravler.
* Nanabee responded 10 minutes later with essentially the same response to NYTraveler.
* 2 minutes later, Nanabee posted the direct quote that she paraphrased in her previous comment.
* Suki only paid attention to the direct quote and responded to it rather than make the connection to the previous comments.
* Then Colonel Mustard killed Professor Plum in the library with the pipe.

You both said the same thing in different ways and within 10 minutes of each other.

with all due respect beanweb: I think suki was refering solely to me, when she specifically said "Oh please, nannabee. He may not have expressed himself well but he came back and explained that he said, "you can go." It is very common to use a different expression in the exposition of a story. He wasn't writing the actual dialogue."

Here is what I said
nanabeeon Jan 18, 13 at 12:17pm
"I think Dobby's post did say somethink like "I said to the guy to skip me." But later Dobby said he didn't say that -- and I take that to mean in the real conversation in London (or whereever it was) he said you can go. Maybe the guy was upset because maybe the guy thought he was saying you can go to h***."

Here is another quote from me - just making the point that others could have gotten confused because of the way Dobby worded it:
nanabeeon Jan 18, 13 at 12:19pm
"Ah here it is Dobby's exact quote from earlier"

"Btw is it rude to let someone skip you in line? I didn't have my money ready so I let this other guy skip me, when I SAID HE COULD SKIP ME he looked over at me like I had two heads"

It really doesn't matter - but I just wanted to let suki know that I was in agreement with her and her point was instead that somehow I was saying something else...blah, blah, blah!!

Let's move on shall we....

StCirq Jan 18th, 2013 04:22 PM

Yes, please. It was a simple misunderstanding. Move on.

janisj Jan 18th, 2013 04:47 PM

Dobby does that to people >)

beanweb24 Jan 18th, 2013 04:49 PM

" with all due respect beanweb: I think suki was refering solely to me,"

Yes, she was. Which is why I said,

"*Suki only paid attention to the direct quote and responded to it rather than make the connection to the previous comments."

Re-read as...

"Suki only paid attention to the direct quote (from Nanabee two minutes later) and responded to it (Nanabee's post) rather than make the connection to the previous comments (from NY Traveler).

Moving along!

For Pete's sake (and ours) give it a rest!!!

easytraveler Jan 18th, 2013 07:00 PM

beanweb: * Then Colonel Mustard killed Professor Plum in the library with the pipe.

That's the only part I understood.

annhig Jan 19th, 2013 02:57 AM

is this a candidate for the "weirdest thread ever"?

it must be a close contender.

nanabee Jan 19th, 2013 05:55 AM

thanks bean for the explanation.
it gets confusing!

DobbyTheTurtle Jan 24th, 2013 01:22 PM

I'm going to a club in London tomorrow. Who wants to give me a ride? :D

Suki Jan 24th, 2013 01:33 PM

I hope you have fun, Dobby. If people look at you, smile at them.

nanabee, I just saw the whole confusion that ensued. I know we've moved on, but what I thought at the time was that you were going back and reading Dobby's original post on the subject, and then you were saying, See, "no mention of you can go," as though he was now changing his story. Sorry for misunderstanding!

easytraveler Jan 24th, 2013 01:56 PM

Dobby: what kind of club? If you're 16, will you be able to enter? Is this a club for musical events? You seem to like music.

StCirq Jan 24th, 2013 02:15 PM

He's 18. Or so he says.

annhig Jan 24th, 2013 02:26 PM

it won't be his age that keeps him out of the club; I'm more worried about him thinking that the bouncers are looking at him funny.

you don't want to tangle with them.

nytraveler Jan 24th, 2013 02:56 PM

I'm sure someone there will be rude to him - and then he'll have to decide if he want to have him fired. Or if he should just complain and have the whole club shut down.

And then he will think that the drinks taste funny. And no one will talk to him. Then he'll decide to go home and take his clothes off again and scare the neighbors.

How much more of this can we take?

joto Jan 24th, 2013 03:29 PM

If he gets to go to the club in London at all. He might just get stuck somewhere because of the snow and bad roads.

Peter_S_Aus Jan 24th, 2013 03:44 PM

Dobby, I'd be glad to offer you a ride.

But I need to know where you live ...

SeeHag Jan 24th, 2013 07:11 PM

Have a wonderful time at the club and please do report back to us. I enjoy your accounts, fact or fiction.

tarquin Jan 25th, 2013 02:21 AM

Dobby, ask for a lift, not a "ride." I can't go into the explanation here.

Hooameye Jan 25th, 2013 03:49 AM

"Dobby, ask for a lift, not a "ride." I can't go into the explanation here."

Yes, he'd probably get more than he bargained for.:-)
