I think you have to subscribe to the traffic alert feature so I probably won't use it. (I live in Atlanta so traffic alert is pretty much a given LOL!)

I am planning to use this for a September trip to Croatia. I can't imagine using it for walking (Getting lost on foot is part of the charm, you find some cool stuff that way) However, I hope that it will help us navigate when driving between the cities.

I will post on how it works however once I start playing with it here.

Hello all
Did anyone have a chance to use the pedestrian mode on the Garmin Nuvi 370. I noticed there were people who were going to report on their findings. If so how well does it work?

Thanks in Advance.

The Garmin 270 also has European maps and you can get it several places online for around $300. Has anyone used this version?

I've used mine in pedestrian mode several times. Its not exactly handy to do that since the antenna is a little wing that juts out - which means you can't easily turn it on and put it in your shirt pocket.

I will say that it worked well, especially in Paris when I was looking for metro stops. The reception is good, even when surrounded by taller buildings.

Overall, I am thrilled with my Nuvi and plan to use it extensively when I visit (and drive in) Corsica, Umbria and Croatia this summer.

Hi sshephard

Thanks alot for your answer about pedestrian mode.

The Garmin 370 sounds like the device I will want and I am on my way to Paris too so thanks again for your answer.

I can see that you have owned the Garmin Nuvi 370 for over a year and are still thrilled with it which is great.

We've owned our Nuvi 370 since April of 2007 and call it a "marital aid". What a peaceful experience to not be the navigator! We have also used the pedestrian mode and found it very helpful. We even had success with it in Sicily where our B&B near Agrigento was in an area with no street signs!
As with all GPS sometimes you get led down the garden path but 99% of the time you are loving it.

HI ALL GPS USERS

Just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 370 this month for my partner. Works well in auto and ped mode in the Boston and northern towns of Ma. My partner will be taking it to Chicago next week to try it out there.
Will be taking it to Paris in May to test Europe but so far so good.
A great investment but to bad they have decided to discontinue the 370 and 670 series. I would have thought that the 270 would have gone by the wayside instead. Big mistake on Garmin's part. Now you have to buy the 770 which is in the 400 dollar range with a big screen or the non bluetooth 270. O well

Greetings all -
It's been many months since this thread began. Which model has been recently "field tested" by other Fodorites? Please clarify for me which model comes preloaded with Europe maps & should be purchased for an upcoming trip. I need one for stateside use as well, so it's worth it, & also, prices seem to have gone down.
Thanks!

I bought a TomTom One on eBay
early last summer for a trip to France. It worked great. I bought
a TomTom because I figured being European, they'd do a better job in Europe.

The unit was a guaranteed refurb unit that came with N American and European maps. One of the attractions was the $130 price.

I have been pleased with it so far.
I find I almost never look at it while in the car... the voice directions work fine. It's a 3.5 inch screen... I wouldn't get one of the larger 4 inch plus screens as they wouldn't be as portable and in my case there's little need since I prefer to use the audio anyway.

All in all an excellent buy.

Rob
