Do you need tickets to the water lilies?
Melissa |
You can also order online and have the tickets mailed if you have enough lead time. I have already gotten ticket for September and they are on their way!
|
are the tickets specific times for the water lilies or just to the museum?
melissa |
Can reserved tkts be printed on line while still in the USA to have and to hold before leaving USA?
|
no, you can't print tickets at home.
They are for entry to the museum itself, not just Monet's waterlilies. |
do you need tickets for the water lilies or they are just part of the museum ticket?
Melissa |
The tickets allow entrance to the museum. You can see the 2 oval rooms of waterlilies and the collection of impressionist paintings in the lower level.
The advantage of the tickets is the same as that of a museum pass, moving to the front of a line (in our case, 2 weeks ago, a line of approx 150 people!) We'd seen all of the other museums on previous trips so these individual tickets were better for us than the museum pass. The line for reservation or pass holders is to the right of the long line, easiest from the Tuileries to walk around the back of the Orangerie to access entry. |
lisa,
did you order your tix from FNAC? i don't see a place on their (online) order form for mailing. can't wait, even though we won't be there until next spring . . .! |
So, are you saying , that if we get the museum pass then we don't need to buy these tickets.
Is that correct? melissa |

|
Melissa-
Entrance is covered by the museum pass. However, when we tried to go through the "Reservations only" line last week, we were told it was only for those people with reservations (and I guess already ticketed). So we had to stand in line with everyone else. Whether this was normal procedure or not I don't know. |
What are the FNAC stores?
|
FNAC stores are like American Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, etc., I believe. See their website at www.fnac.fr and you'll get the idea.
|
Melissa,
I did order online. At the payment page, you can select (at the top of the form) whether you want to pick up in-store or have the tickets mailed. There is a charge for the mailing, but I did it in May for Musee D'Orsay and it was worth the extra cost to me not to have to worry about taking care of it once I got to Paris. Others, I'm sure, would advise to simply pick them up. Hope this helps! |
Melissa,
I should have said that I ordered them from fnac online. |
that's great, lisa. thanks!
|
Thanks so much for all this great information. I've waited so long to do this. It felt wonderful to print out the confirmation of my reservation in August and know that finally, finally I'll get to see this.
|
I've ordered tickets for L'Orangerie and have a Confirmation of Reservation that states an e-mail confirming the details will be sent to me.
Confirmation is in English... but when I access the FNAC website all I come up with is French. Have sent a message to inquire on my order status since e-mail has not arrived. However, all messages come back in French. Is there a secret to accessing an English translation? (Don't know how I got the confirm in English!) Sigh..... -:) |
I don't think so, I thought that website was entirely in French. I am surprised you got a confirmation in English.
FNAC has always been flawless in sending me the appropriate emails, I'm surprised you didn't get the required info. Are you saying you got an email confirming the purchase, or just the confirmation page on the website when you bought them? Because if you never got any email, often that means the order didn't go through. There really aren't many details to get, but you do get an order number, as I recall. |
Post your reply from the fnac here and I can translate it for you.
|
Christina, thanks for your input.I did get an order number. I've referenced it in my e-mails to them, but so far no luck. Guess I'll jusst have to wait and see if the tickets show up! I knew I should have studied French instead of Spanish!
|
We were there last week and there was no line.
We just walked into the museum using our Paris Museum Pass. The pictures were wonderful.Enjoy Melissa |

Are you sure that reserved tickets can be picked up at ALL FNAC stores? There is a feeling in my memory that some stores do not have that facility. I think I remember a couple of years ago I went to the store in the 6th and had to go to the one on Rue de Rennes to get the tickets. |
Loosely, here's what it says: We have received (recorded/made note) ofyour request, number 117457-1157475197. We will send an email response as soon as possible If you wish to (re)contact us about your request, answer this email by noting (including) the (request) number, [117457-1157475197], in your follow-up message (to us). |
Looks like an automated reply... give it time and see if they respond further.
|
Thanks all. Got a message this a.m. (in Anglais) that the tickets are in the mail!

We reserved through FNAC and were let in immediately though we were a trifle early for our time slot--last week. The line for people who had not reserved was only about 10 or 15 people long and seemed to be moving ok. If you intend to go and are worried about cutting up your day with a specific time slot, I'd say don't bother. We were there, of course, on a weekday not a weekend and at 4 p.m. so that may have colored my experience, but if you can plan for somewhat similar timing, I'd say it's probably not necessary to get advance reservations and be stuck with a specific day and time.
|
i've been looking at the FNAC website, and they are only listing tickets through november. do they only sell a few months ahead? we're not going until march, but i'm looking forward to seeing l'orangerie!
|
They have them through March. There really shouldn't be a problem getting them within a month, though, as most people don't buy them in advance.
You are probably searching for the wrong thing. They are changing expos at the end of November, so it costs a couple euro more then and they have that as a separate listing (from 11/20 through March or something). Just put in "musee orangerie" into the search box under Spectacles and you'll see both possibilities and dates. |
got it! thanks, christina...

I had reservations through FNAC for the Orangerie on Thursday, Sept. 28th at 1:00pm. I picked them up earlier at an FNAC in Rouen. I needed the credit card I'd used and my passport to get them.
It seemed like a normal Thursday in Paris. My friend and I walk past 150 people waiting in the regular line to go in. Once in the main doors there were another 50 people backed up at the ticket windows. Maybe you'll not have a line. Maybe you will. I'd lock into a specific time to avoid any line that might exist. Especially since the tickets weren't that expensive. 16euro was the total cost for 2 tix as I recall. Using hindsight I'd have gone downstairs to see that collection first, saving the "bang" of Monet's gorgeous paintings for last. As it was I dashed right into the water lilies. They were so stunning that I was overwhelmed and didn't appreciate the paintings in the lower gallery as much as I should have. |
In September, we went to FNAC and had no problem getting tickets on Friday for the following Monday (our day of choice). All times were available. If you're not having your tickets mailed and plan to pick them up at FNAC anyway, you may as well just wait until you get to Paris and check the weather forecast.
|
currently fnac is only lisitng dates through early march, and we will be there in the latter half. so close but yet so far!
thanks for the good tips. i may have to buy tickets early just because i can. and i like the idea of seeing the other collection first. i'm prepared to be awed by the lillies. just bought our air france tix, so now i feel like i'm really going to paris! thanks! |
Hate to sound like a dummy, but when I went to www.fnac.com, everything was in French. I couldn't find a tab or icon to switch to English. Advice, Anyone?
|
Hi leburta, there is no english version of FNAC unfortunately.
|
perhaps it's just me, but i can't find dates on the FNAC website for l'orangerie past march 5. would they stop selling advance tickets? we'll be in paris march 21-27!
thanks, all... |
