MTV " Real World " Paris
 

For Paris Fans the Real World television Show is doing there season in Paris. They also gave the Kids jobs to write a travel guide for young adults for Europe ( Frommers guide books )intresting to watch ! if your a Paris fan trying to figure out there locations .check your TV listings New ones are on Tuesday night at 10:00pm and repeats on weekends.

I really do dislike the "Real World" shows in general, but I do find it interesting to see the "sights of the city of light" on any show. I would love to know what part of Paris the house that they are staying in is located. Any ideas? The house looks beautiful from the outside. I am not sure what it will look from the inside once the show is over.

Maybe it is just me, and with the greatest of respect and thanks for the post, aside from glimpses of local sights, in Paris or otherwise, I have difficulty accepting a lot of things from MTV as being "real." Sorry.

they are back at home. Hate to break it to you but it is taped and not edited and aired until they have already left. Its been done this way for the past 11 years.

BTW, Some on the Paris season have no business writing for Frommers. They have no interest in travel and no experience. One says he hates Paris and everything that isn't like at home in Georgia. He starts street fights and cusses out local people. The true Ugly American.

You really don't like the Real World???It is a guilty pleasure for me! And now they are in Paris even better. Of course they repeat their cast of stock characters with each new show - the hick, the gay guy, the pain in the neck girl and, I promise you, an alcoholic will emerge within the next few episodes. I think they must be pretty far outside the center of Paris because they take a commuter train (not the metro) when they head into Paris.

The house is in Le Vesinet and it's a bit of a stretch to say they are "in" Paris.

Ace is the Ugly American who hates Paris and the French. He's not cool. He's a dick!

I have to look away from Real World Paris. My niece and I were watching it one day and kept yelling at the TV: "Those people don't deserve to be there! *We* do!"

I agaree with all the bad things said about the show and the "kids" representing America. I think they are the worse kind or travelers! I am only interested in the house and the few and limited sights of Paris.

Well, I'll admit to watching the show and, in Ace's defense, while early on, he did make some negative remarks about Paris and France in general, I think they mostly stemmed from just being really homesick. Now that he's settling in and feeling more comfortable, he has since made several comments about how he's starting to feel more comfortable in the country, with the people, the food, etc. and actually LIKES Paris.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was just experiencing severe culture shock and was blowing off steam with his new friends. I mean, it's not like he went up to a PARISIAN and said, "I hate you and I hate your country and your food!" or anything like that.

Come on now, I'd be willing to bet good money that, for example, jor has made extremely negative comments about Americans privately to his friends. Should we call jor an "Ugly European" and a "Dick?"

I'm much more disturbed by the incessant womanizing of the other kid (I can't remember his name right now . . . the one who's from California and went to Stanford.). Now that's disrespectful.

Sometimes the best way to learn about a new country is to jump in headfirst...
If the guy Ace has an opinion that is contrary to what others may think..does that make him wrong?
I think that it is why it is called "Real World"... You get the good and the bad on that show...not a whole lot of pretending...
I bet these kids leave with a new appreciation of what they have at home and also what France has to offer...

Jennie, I am American from the midwest, not European. I know an Ugly American when I see one, and I have seen more than a few in my travels to Europe. This "Ace" guy was drunk on a Parisian street, cussing out drivers and pedestrians. You lost the bet.

I am surprised that nobody have mentioned the Irish guy that the producers of the show threw in the mix. Most of the time, he seems to be amused by the antics exhibited by his American roommates. I admit of watching some episodes, but watching spoiled kids make AH of themselves is not much of entertainment to me.

I didn't mean to say that you WERE a European. I was just illustrating a point that, just because someone doesn't make uniformly positive comments about a country and its citizens they should not automatically be painted with the "Ugly American" brush.

Granted, I probably should have said something like, "If he/she makes negative comments about Americans should we call them an "Ugly___(fill in the blank.)?" I used "Ugly European" because, well, this is the Europe board. Also, I used you as an example (and I was careful to point out that it was just an example) because you are the one who called him an "Ugly American" AND "a dick."

And, I watch the show every week and the only time I remember Ace ever "yelling" on the street is when he yelled at someone in a CAR (not a pedestrian) who almost mowed him down while he was trying to cross the street (in, I might add, what looked to be like a legitimate crossing zone) . Now, I don't know about YOU, but if someone just about ran ME and my friends over, I wouldn't care if they were American, Parisian, Italian, German, Zimbabwean, or WHAT, I'd scream at them too. I hardly think this is "Ugly American" behavior. This is called, "Hey, Jackass, you almost killed me!" behavior and it is universal across cultures as far as I can tell.

Jen, in that episode, weren't they also trying to get their drunk roommate (I think his name is Chris) home safely at the time they were crossing the street in the sidewalk?

Yes, I think you're right. That was the night Chris (who also has issues and behaviors that are WAY worse than anything Ace has exhibited!) got so drunk that he was practically falling down before they ever really got to DO anything fun. I'm sure Ace was frustrated and upset over that, too which also probably contributed to the yelling (in addition to just about getting run over, I mean).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that all of these people are wonderful angels. It's just that out of all of them (especially the boys) Ace is BY FAR the least "dick" like. He actually seems to be a fairly nice guy who, in general, tries to keep everyone happy and having fun.

Had the same reaction to Ace originally and had a bad reaction to the entire show at the beginning, too (Melissa, we were all yelling at the TV the way you were!). As time has gone on, have seen Ace as a rather good person who may actually be afraid of letting go of a "If I like France, I don't love my country" feeling.

Thought the editors at the meeting explained to him beautifully why a dissing attitude makes it hard on all concerned.

Actually, I keep checking in to see if he enlarges his universe by show's end. Again, he seems to be an otherwise rather considerate and creative person, so one hopes those traits will be extended to those other than his countrymen.

Did anybody noticed the name of the restaurant in Zermatt from where this whole gang got kicked out of? Anybody saw this episode? The blonde lives about 45 minutes from my house; way of make an a** of herself.
