Quick question about the St. Peter Stiftskeller Mozart dinner... what was it like? What was the food like (1 of us is vegetarian)? Does the quality of the music vary widely depending on who is playing that night? How long does it last (consider our walk back to hotel at night on a Monday)? Does the whole thing come off as a must-do for Mozart fans, or "cheesy"? I want to do it but am having a time convincing the spouse, who'd rather have a nice dinner and find some good music elsewhere, rather than rely on a single packaged thing.

Small portion but delicious and full of win. They do have a vegetarian option. So be sure to let them know beforehand.

This isn't an amateur production. These are professional classically trained musicians. Mrs. Sparkchaser, also a professional classically trained musician, declared them to be a tight group that performed very well.

IIRC, it was between 2-3 hours. There are taxis that can take you back to the hotel. I don't see what the day of the week has to do with anything.

If you like Mozart, I say do it. We've done it twice and plan on doing it the next time we are in Salzburg. Then again, we're suckers for good music.

Cheesy? Perhaps if you're a music snob who only goes to see virtuoso orchestras and vocalists nobody has ever heard of. Touristy? Perhaps but that doesn't change the fact that you get a good meal, professional musicians performing some beloved classics in a small venue.

Call me a music snob, but I'm with itspat's spouse who would rather have a nice dinner and find good music elsewhere. And that certainly doesn't mean confining oneself to "virtuoso orchestras and vocalists nobody has ever heard of".
