We've stayed in ParisPerfect's "Montrachet" three times. Positively Awesome!

There's that spectacular view from all (floor to ceiling) windows (kitchen, living room, bedroom) in the apartment, along with the balcony with table and chairs. It just doesn't get any better than enjoying the "sparkling" of the Tour Eiffel evenings from the balcony, the dining room table, the sofa, even your pillows! (Not to mention a superior DVD and CD player for "mood music" and romantic movies.) I always pack a handful of movies on DVD and CD's. (But, many are provided.) You can even see the hot air balloon!

There's also a VELIB station right under your windows.

And, everything you could possibly need/want is within steps. Almost next door is one of those rotisserie chicken vendors (with chunks of potatoes roasted in the dripping juices, along with amazing "sides" - pommes puree, gratin...steamed vegetables). Across the street is Richard's coffee, and a fantastic take-away shop for breads, pastries, sandwiches, salads, all superb and fresh.

There are wine shops and places very nearby for purchasing your favorite libations.

On the corner, there's a bus stop with routes to all over (we much prefer the buses to the metro).

And, there's wonderful dining in every direction, much of it SO romantic and at very moderate prices.

The kitchen is excellently equipped. And, there's a Nespresso with a basket of capsules, a G7 across the street for that incredible butter and awesome jams and preserves for the croissants, baguette, (and real cream), you go across the street for in the morning to go with your coffee - for enjoying on the balcony - with that VIEW!

Two of my sisters--Jane and Jennifer-stayed at the Crillon for their honeymoons.

I just remembered that. :)

Good luck,

In my opinion, forget waiting until Paris and ask her at the beginning of the trip. That way you get it out of the way and you can both celebrate for the rest of the time. Especially if she might be wondering about it and if you are trying to hide the ring the whole trip.

And make sure you have insurance on the ring before you go!

I just read kelliebellie's comment and I had to giggle. I had a friend who took his girlfriend on a European trip, planning to finish up and propose in Paris, with a view of the Eiffel Tower. They ended up arguing by the time they got to Paris and it was raining and they were so fussy and crabby that he finally thrust the ring at her and shouted, "here!" I would do it at the beginning too, and celebrate through out the trip.

I think it is very sweet, but what makes proposals endearing to me is when they are made 'ordinary'. or some other word that I can't think of. The real test of being married is the ordinary moments, not the uber-romantic moments.

(btw, she knows it is coming. surprise her! find a moment that you know she won't expect it early in the trip. Use the whole trip as a chance to celebrate.)

Think of those times that she doesn't look her best and there aren't flowers and chocolate and violins, but you guys are 'just you'. A really fun time would be on the plane on the way over... is your flight full ? Sweet talk the gate agent into upgrading you - tell her that you would like to propose on the way over... get the flight attendants to help you... "honey, I want to travel the world with you... will you marry me ? " or something hokey. On our honeymoon, we were given a bottle of wine from our flight attendant that they signed.

There's something else you could do... get 2 bottles of GOOD wine... open one while there and save the other for your 25th anniversary to remember. Sign it and save it.

oh yeah, and listen to kelliebellie. insure it NOW!
