Morocco to Spain Border Crossing
 

Hello All,

I am planning a trip after my graduation and will be travelling with my friends from Canada to Morocco and then cross the border into Spain at Tangier. I have researched about the need for a Visa, since this will be a 4 month long trip, and what i have found is that holding a Canadian passport allows me to travel between most of the European countries which fully apply the Schengen Agreement upto 3 months in total (please correct me if i am wrong). So from what i understand i can travel to Europe without the need fro a Schengen visa.

The question i have that i can't find the answer to is that when crossing the border into Spain from Morocco and when my passport gets the entery stamp can i still travel through all of Europe and leave back to Canada from the UK or does the entry stamp limit me to Spain and only for a cretain number of days?

You can tour all of the EU with the one visa stamp when you enter Spain.

You just need to limit your time in Schengen to 90 days - but the UK isn't part of it and time there doesn't count to the 90 days.

The UK is not part of the Schengen argreement.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, The UK does follow different rules and did a bit of research on it.They also seem to allow a 90 day stay for Canadian citizens without Visa.

@ Robert2533, Do you mean Passport stamp, for i don't plan on getting a Visa since my stay in the EU will be less than 90 days.

The 90-day (not 3 months - exactly 90 days) allowable stay is known as a "regular tourist visa." I would wager that's what Robert was referring to. When you enter Spain and go through Passport Control, they will likely stamp your passport.

Just one tip. Do not bring cannabis or any drugs (widely available in Morocco) into Spain. Young backpackers are specially targeted by Spanish customs and you may face body search or worse. If found, you will be spending some time in a Spanish jail.

@StCirq, just to make sure i completely understand, when I do a land border crossing between Morocco and Spain I pass through Passport Control and it is here that they will stamp my passport. This entery stamp than i have gained allows me travel through countries which follow the Schengen Agreement. Exiting the EU can be done from any of the schengen countrie of my choosing.

Entering from Morocco, you may be required to show that you have sufficient funds available to you for your stay in the EU.

You can't enter from Morocco to Spain by land - you enter by boat.

Once in the EU (without a physical visa - but on a 90 day tourist visa) you can move among any of the Schengen countries for 90 days. The UK is separate - and I would assume you an stay up to 6 months there - as Americans can.

It's not. The overwhelming majority of Commonwealth citizens require a visa to enter the UK. Canada is one of the very few Commonwealth countries whose citizens have the same non-visa entry privileges as Americans or Japanese.

The only Commonwealth countries with easier access to the UK than the US are Malta, Cyprus and a handful of microstates still under UK rule.

Keep your transit ticket incase they don't stamp the passport to avoid any doubt about your entrance date. Enjoy your vacation!

@lincasanova, stupid question but the transit ticket you talk about is that my that my plane ticket or something else?

...how ever you are getting from Morocco to Spain.. I guess by ferry? just keep that ticket, too.. JUST in case.. you probably will not need to ever prove your entry date, but in case for some reason you must, and there is no stamp ( for some reason) in your passport, the transit /boat/ferry/plane ticket should suffice.

You should get a Schengen entry stamp when you arrive in Spain. If not, ask for it! It's a rectangular stamp with a picture of a boat and an arrow going inside a box, plus the date.

Nancy from The Spain Scoop is not only advertising, but giving BAD information. If you leave the Schengen Zone and go to Morocco, it's NOT a renewal on your passport. You have exactly 90 days, NOT 3 months (some months have 31 days, or 29, or 28), within a 180-day period to travel in Schengen countries. Leaving the Schengen and going to Morocco does NOT reset the clock on your 90-day allowable travel visa.

you must check the Spanish government website as far as documents necessary for your country . Morocco requirements have NOTHING to do with Spain's requirements. So NO.. the Moroccan visa is NOT good in Spain.
