IMO part of the so-called "cuisine" in Venice and other parts of Italy involves where you are eating and not just what you are eating. Does pasta taste better in Italy? Does pizza? Apparently for some they both do.

For me Venice is an early morning or evening sort of place. Like every port or dock it wakens early and gets on about its business of setting a stage for people to enjoy. Is the food any good, well the fish and shell fish is fine. Once dusk begins to fall the lights offer small areas of safety with darkness, dampness and shadows to dodge through. This is especially lovely when the fat-boat people waddle back to their troughs.

July 2019 I was between the Rialto and San Marco, on a small street that didn't even show up correctly on Google Maps. It was a vacation apartment.

Very little traffic. Had to walk about 30 meters to get to the main street that cut through but even on that street there wasn't much traffic.

It has a view of the Grand Canal but I left windows open and it was still quiet with all those boats passing by.

But I ran into acqua alta on that little street so I have to wade through some ankle deep water a couple of times to get to the door of the apartment building.

I liked Venice too (sadly missed the gondola and the building you mentioned.)
