Sinan, you are probably one of the most gracious posters on this site and continually offer great information. Wish I could go while you're there. However, my one and only trip to Turkey was in July and it was way too hot for me! I do hope to have the chance to visit again. Have a wonderful trip.

Hi,

Today we (me my wife and our guests)went to SIRINCE where you can see beatiful town. I want everybody visit this small town when you get Kusadasi or Selcuk where ephesus museum and ruins are. When you get Sirince first you see beatiful houses then see many winery or wine sellers. You may think that Turkish people don't dring alcohol because we are muslim. First I have to say that THIS IS NOT TRUE, Sirince is the sample of this and second our national alcohol is RAKI (when you come to Turkey try RAKI or LIONS MILK) which is made of anason. This small town is remarkable beatiful and there are some pansiyons and their price are very cheap one of them (I like) is Sirince Pansiyon they are clean and reasonable price. They told me 60 million ($ 40) room price for 2 people Included breakfast. There are 2 hotels and their price very higher then this. Whether believe or not There were 2 churchs and 40 monastries in this town only a few left because many christians left town after Indipendence war (1915-1920. When you go you can see the mixture of Greece and Turkish arts and architectures in town. We 4 people had some snacks one of the restaurant which have nice wiev of town and I paid $ 11 for 4 GOZLEME kind of pastry, 1 stuffed grape leaf which was very delicious and Ayran (Yougurt mixed with water) for 4 people
You can not get this food for this price anywhere in the world.
I think their web page is:

http://www.sirinceguide.com/default.asp?cat=main

Just check and I am sure you will love this town.

Have a nice day from KUSADASI

Hi,

In 2 days I was really busy. First day We went to Izmir which is almost 3 million population (only an hour drive from here). We visited the Covered Bazaar of Izmir then Roman Bath which is dated to 3rd century. Then went to Chine Restaurant in Karsiyaka. Yes Turkish restaurant or foods better then Chine foods BUT some time I prefer different taste The price of the restaurant very reasonable I paid $30 for 4 people's food.
Second day we went to BULDAN the town very close to PAMUKKALE. Buldan is the Textile center of that area although the area is the center of COTTON the price of Textile very very cheap. If you are going to Pamukkale or from Pamukkale to Izmir direction I recommed you drive this town and visit I am sure you will find some things you need and buy. We bought many hand made things like table cloth ($ 5), Bed Sheet Hand made ($ 20). Chair cover hand made ($ 2 for 2 pieces), Pillow case ($ 2 for 2 pieces).

Then yesterday we went to AUQA FANTASY again to rest. Then we eat PIZZA in Town if you are coming to Kusadasi go to GONDOL RESTAURANT and order one of the pizza they cook. You can not find this pizza in Italy. They are soo delicious. BONEPETIT.

I hope you all have nice days like I have in here.

Marko Aug 6th, 2003 01:47 AM

OK sinan, would you recommend that I spend 5 nights in Kusadasi and 2 in Bodrum or the other way around ?

sinan Aug 7th, 2003 01:26 AM

TO KARI RADY,

I tried to reply your request via e-mail BUT there is an error with your e-mail so my e-mail I try to sent came back to me. Here is my e-mail

Hi Kari Rady,

First thank you for your nice thought about me. Yes you can find some Bus companies coming to Kusadasi BUT I don't have any schedue of them. You won't have any problem to find a bus go one place to another especially in the Touristic places. I would stay in Pamukkale 1 night then take a bus to Kusadasi because If you take a bus from Cappadocia you would pass from Pamukkale (Denizli) so if you stay in Pamukkale I am sure you can find may hotels very reasonable price then you can stay in Kusadasi and have daily trip to Ephesus and around ephesus for 1 day then to Prienne, Miletus, and Didyma for another day. After you can go to ICMELER by bus maybe you may not find a direct bus BUT you can go to Marmaris by bus then to Icmeler by DOLMUS (small transportation bus). If you tell me your budget I can find some hotel for you while I am in Turkey.

Cheers

Sinan Akdeniz

sinan Aug 7th, 2003 01:44 AM

Hi Marko,

If you can come here from North of Kusadasi you may visit Troia and Pergamum then stay in Kusadasi for couple days NOT 5 DAYS Because 5 days is very long days for Kusadasi unless you have kid(s). When you come here you may take daily tour to Ephesus, Virgin Mary's house, St Jean Church, Artemission. Another day you may go Prienne, Miletus and Didyma or on the way to BODRUM you may visit these ruins. While you are staying Kusadasi
you may visit SIRINCE (another full day trip)

If you want to visit pamukkale
I recommend you drive to Pamukkale and stay in there and visit the ruins and swim in the pools and dirve to BODRUM via AFRODISIAS. If you want to drive to Pamukkale you can stay in Kusadasi 1 night more to daily trip to Prienne, Miletus and Didyma, because these ruins are not on the way to Denizli or Pamukkale.

So its up to you to stay in Kusadasi 5 days. To stay in Bodrum would be little bit more then 2 days because there are many place to visit like Bodrum Castle and The museum of Underwater which is the best in the world, and MAUSOLEUM which is the another seven wonders of the world is here (Turkey has 2 seven wonders of the world the one is in the Selcuk close to Kusadasi (Artemission) or Ephesus and another is in the Bodrum named Mausoleum)

I hope you will enjoy this trip in Turkey

Have a nice days from Kusadasi

Sinan,

I enjoy your posts! Where would you recommend going in Turkey with two teenagers next summer? We will be there for about ten days.

Thanks so much!

sinan Aug 7th, 2003 09:32 PM

Hi Weadles

There are 3 Aqua Parks in Kusadasi. The one I am going is one of the biggest in the europe (This is what the workers saying) and name is AUQA Fantasy. Another one that I saw but I didn't because there is no secure there is ADALAND. The 3rd one is little bit outside of Kusadasi smaller then others.

Other place would be Bodrum. Bodrum might have the same activities BUT little bit more expensive.

Everywhere in Turkey has special price in Hotels if you request a room(s) you may get some discount for your kids. Or if you want to stay more then 10 days you may find some furnished apartment for your family.

I hope you will have fun in Turkey with your kids.

Weadles Aug 8th, 2003 08:04 AM

Sinan,

THank you very much for all the great information! I just wish I knew how to say that in Turkish!

sinan Aug 8th, 2003 10:21 AM

If you want to say "Thank you" in Turkish you have to say "TE$EKKUR". The sound like TEA + SAKE + CURE.

Maybe when you come to Kusadasi we may see you and your family.

Today was HOT and HOT But I went to STREET MARKET to get some fresh food and vegetables. If you come to Turkey you can find STREET MARKETS everywhere and you can get really cheep foods and vegetables KEEP IN YOUR MIND. After market I went back home and rested for tomorrow, because I am planning to go to Prienne, Miletus, Didyma. I know this places very well, but every year I feel that I have to visit these places. So tomorrow I may write something about these ruins.

Have a nice days from KUSADASI.

HI KARI RADY,

I am sending e-mail and coming back to me sorry for this inconvinience mailing. I think My server is OK but yours not request any e-mail.

Here is my recommendation for you:

Hotel Prelude 1 and Grand Blue are not good hotels BUT Pine Bay and Richmond Hotel are good hotels in Kusadasi. These Hotels are out side of the Kusadasi so if you want to go to Kusadasi you have to take a taxi or take a DOLMUS. The price of the hotels might be higher then $60 per day because they have own beach and pool ETC...
Yes if you want to rent a car you can find many agencies in Kusadasi as I wrote PLEASE DON'T RENT A CAR IN ISTANBUL wasting you money and really bit dangerous for foreign. If you reserve your hotel in the Sultanahmet you are righ in the center of the HISTORY AND ARCHAELOGY.

Cheers

Carolred Aug 13th, 2003 11:34 AM

Hi, Sinan. I hope it is not too hot for you now. We hear on the news that it is devastatingly hot in Europe.

I have to make a point regarding your comment that Turkiye being muslim and people thinking they can not drink alcohol... that is exactly what we thought before we went in 2001. My husband and I like to drink on our holidays. The guidebooks led us to believe that you would only be served alcohol in a good restaurant but no where else.

Well, for those of you who expect liquor to be limited in Turkiye, that is not true. You can buy beer in Turkiye more easily than you can in Canada, and the only food places that don't serve it are very small vendors and McDonalds, again, more than in Canada. Even the smallest restaurants have wine also, and there are many bars that serve every drink you can get in any tourist destination.

I envy you. We did not get to Ephesus... only saw Marmaris, Istanbul, and Cappadocia.

Keep up the fun travel commentary, Sinan!

sinan Aug 14th, 2003 11:04 AM

Dear my friends
My friends and me went to Priene, Miletus and Didyma a couple days ago. Everything was as same as I expected, only in Miletus there are some new excavation and restoration in some place.
Priene was the important city in Ionian around 300 BC many congresses and festivals was held in this city but Miletus was more important then Priene because of the harbor and commercial activities between 700BC to 700 AD.When you go to Didyma you just see the TEMPLE OF APOLLO which was built 494 BC then rebuilt in different times. You will see the remarkable temple and worth to visit.
You can take visit these 3 ruins in an half day because they are close to each other and close to Kusadasi. So you may drive directly to Didyma and start your visit then finish your day in Priene then have delicious FISH lunch in the restaurant close to Priene.

I am sure you will love this tour.

Enjoy your meal and tour

HI Marko,

The first nice restaurant in town is MY RESTAURANT in MY BALCONY if we come to Turkey Kusadasi same time. WELCOEM TO MY BALCONY and have meal with me WHILE SUNSET. I may call BEAUTY OF SUN
The second is my favorite restaurant in downtown is GONDOL restaurant I wrote about this restaurant before they cook really delicious PIZZA here and very cheap Their adress is
Ataturk Caddesi (Street) no:56/1 this restaurant very close to Kismet hotel.
If you want to eat delicious FISH you don't need to walk or take a taxi because there is a restaurant next to Kismet hotel named TARIHI CIMAR RESTAURANT. They have really fresh (Daily) fish I am sure that you will love this restaurant like the one in the downtown in the harbour (You have to take a taxi)named KAZIM USTA he is one of the best, Tarihi cinar is little bit more expensive then Kazim Usta, but both are really good.

ENJOY YOUR MEALS
Have a nice days from Kusadasi
