Well, I don't know how to post photos, so...

Picture the most adorable tri-color, 15" beagle! His name is Ed. He's 8, very spoiled, and very cute! He's tender hearted, and loves to WALK (and walk and walk and walk...) and EAT (and eat and eat and eat!!!) He's now recovering from surgery (had fatty lumps removed) and doing great.

Then, picture his (adopted) sister, Cindy. She is 27 lbs. of pure mutt, and looks like a german shepard that was shrunk in the dryer. everyone thinks she's a puppy, but she's 7. Truly, only God knows what whe is, other than our princess!

By the way, they HATE when I travel, and think Fodor's takes way too much of my time away from them!

Iregeo Feb 11th, 2005 11:58 AM

Oh yeah, more often than not, Cindy sleeps on her back, paws in the air, with a tennis ball in her mouth! It's a sight to see!

Statia Feb 11th, 2005 12:00 PM

Iregeo, I thought my Bailey dog was the only one who did that!

Iregeo Feb 11th, 2005 12:08 PM

Statia, she's a hoot! While the beagle seems melencholoy much of the time with those "sad" beagle eyes, the little one is happy and smiling, 150% of the time! She came from the streets and is genuinely happy to have a family and a home!

Statia Feb 11th, 2005 12:18 PM

Iregeo, I'll bet you have to take her for a ride every day too, and you can't say the "r" word in front of her? That's the way it is with Baiely. I could swear that he understands English perfectly. :)

IGY Pup, our 4 year old wirehaired dachshund (standard size, dark brindle) is the "center of the universe."

He spends most of the day in his basket on the front porch, occasionally rising to chase the squirrels from the bird feeder or dig a hole in the yard. He LOVES to go for walks and prefers baby carrots over dog treats. He's a bed hog.

Dogs are children with fur coats.

Peace, Robyn :)>-

Tries2PakLite, a great topic!

We took in a stray male cat and named him Wandering Ængus (with apologies to Yeats). He's usually called Gus.

Continuing on a poetic note, he's "mad, bad, and dangerous to know." Just like Lord Byron.

Do you think there's a connection between love of animals and love of travel?

SusanInToronto Feb 11th, 2005 12:33 PM

Our furry children are Alex (a 17 year old tabby who is very skittish), Lulu (a 1 1/2 year old long haired tuxedo cat) and Chico (a 1 1/2 year old tabby). Alex hates the youngsters - they show her no respect whatsoever. They on the other hand, love each other and spend almost as much time grooming each other as they do themselves. Lulu sticks like velcro to us during the day and evening, Chico takes the night shift. We got the little ones when Cleo (our beautiful silver grey tabby) passed away almost 2 years ago.

They are wonderful friends to us, and I always miss them when we travel.

Not sure, Iregeo, because the only thing I hate about travel is leaving my dog.

<<Do you think there's a connection between love of animals and love of travel?>>

No. Most of the animal lovers I know are not strongly interested in travel.

Introducing . . .

Lucy, 3 year old yellow Lab, cute, playful, slightly plump, our baby

Kermit, 6 year old kitty, gray, soft, purrful, quite plump

And last, but not least . . .

Cosmo, our first pet together, 6 year old orange striped tabby, also, purrful, also soft, also plump, but recently lost some weight due to some new lo-cal food:)

Our two Portuguese Water Dogs (litter mates) who continue to graciously ALLOW us to share "their" home, both now 9 years old and more willful and determined and stubborn and spoiled rotten and adored like children:

Dukey de Frank ("Dukey" for short) and

Bruno Count Bluffski (just plain old "Bruno")

How we hate to leave them behind whenever we go abroad.

Our "babies" are:
Molly, a seven year-old Golden Retriever- the sweetest, most mellow dog in the world,

Xena, a two year-old Golden- she is definitely the "warrior princess"- feisty and full of personality.

Lucy, twelve? year-old cat- reclusive, but cuddly when she wants to be.

Being the animal lover that I am, I really enjoy looking at everyone's "Furry Fodorite" photos (or would that be "Fotos"?)

Robyn, is your Igy Pup perhaps named after Iggy Pop? :)

artstuff Feb 11th, 2005 03:52 PM

Statia -

We learned through the Dachshund rescue website that there was a wirehaired Dachshund at the SPCA five hours from our home. He had been there for 2 months and they were going to put him down. His "cell number" in "jail" was 449, which is what we called him for the first 2 days, while we were trying to choose a name. I finally looked at the telephone keypad and realized 449 spelled out IGY. Being old rock-n-rollers, IGY Pup was a given - definately a take on Iggy Pop. Peace.

I love these photos and Marilyn I love that video! Everyone at my office was watching and oohing and aahing and laughing at it. Thanks.
