I assume you meant "write"
|
I'm surprised someone without a 'proper' education caught that - good show. Write?
|
because CHOLMONDLEYTRUFACTS are a different calibre of TRUFACT from mere true facts.
BUDMANWILDASSERTION is a different thing again. I am afraid to tell you that the mad mullahs' nuts are in fact poisoning you: http://tinyurl.com/2ryz27 I think you should invade and end this poisonous pistachio threat. |
Do Mcd's do food???
|
While it is true that Iran is employing aflatoxins in its arsenal of evil (pistachios), those very same weapons of mass destruction are lurking, RIGHT NOW, already within our very own US of A borders.
Yes, the food that holds the revered place of honor for Americans that is held by marmite in less advanced cultures, that is to say, peanut butter, is also a major source of aflatoxins. And in one analysis, the hippie organic peanut butters had MORE aflatoxins than the transfat-and-sugar-adulterated big corporate brands. Is nothing sacred? |

Date: 10/29/2007, 09:07 am your odds of happening upon a good restaurant (in Ireland anyways) are rather slim. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kirbyks You obviously dont know Ireland as well as you like to say you do, because your huge generalisation is way off the mark!! Or maybe you just dont know good food when you taste it! |
Hey Sunsurf-apparently you never learned English grammar-gosh, maybe that's because you speak a dialect of English? (smile) It's DOES McD's do food, NOT "do" -incorrect subject-verb agreement there, and the answer is obviously it does, it's the biggest food franchise on the planet-and opens a new franchise somewhere in the world every few hours.

OK Grammar experts, can you explain this?
Why does MacDonald's take the singular form as a noun but the plural form as a pronoun? Does MacDonald's do food? Do they do food? |
I think for the same reason we might say "they" in speaking of any company. For example, "Enron is in trouble. They're about to go bankrupt." We consider a company not just to be a single entity, but a collection of all of its employees.
The fact that McDonald's is possessive makes it all the more compelling to do this, since the final "s" tricks the brain into thinking it's plural. Just my own theories. (I'm an English teacher, by the way.) |
Does it have to do with the fact that there is a question?
Does McDonald's (Restaurant) do food? or Do they do food? If you were to answer the question this way: Yes, McDonald's does food. and Yes, they do food. ?? |
I normally don't eat at McD's at home, but I will admit that on our last night in London, my kids and I devoured a meal at the McDonald's on Edgeware Rd in Paddington. What made the meal interesting is that aside from my two girls (aged 8 and 6) there was only maybe one or two females in the entire place who were not in head-to-toe burqas. C'est la vie.
My attitude about McDonalds is that it's not something you want to make part of your regular diet. Like a bag of chips or candy bar or a pack of Slim Jims picked up on the Garden State Parkway, it can do the job in a pinch. |
I have an issue with anyone who uses their budget as an excuse to eat McDonalds while traveling. The giant ham and cheese crepe I had in Paris for €3 was way better than any international food community killer.
Just because locals eat there, doesn't make them right. |
That's true. People should provide budget as an excuse. In fact, they shouldn't have to provide an excuse at all. It is their vacation, and they shouldn't worry about who might have a problem with it unless that someone is footing the bill. |
rather... People shouldN'T provide budget as an excuse
|
Anyone who thinks fast food is evil... pray, give me a good, fast alternative to it at 10-11 PM in the midwest for someone who has been on her feet for 6-8 hours at work and does not want to stand anymore than she has to... You expect me to create an entire dinner out of home grown items from my suburban backyard in the middle of winter?
Whenever I get to traveling, I'll be more likely to try to find good but cheap local places to eat. But, if I'm pressed for time, or if I feel like it, I'll check out McD's. I don't see the problem with it if you just feel like having some. |
"international food community killer"
Oh please... |
