AMC - we're a bit flexible, but also have a few hotels that are prepaid. If it gets delayed past Monday, we may have to re-think Berlin (our first week), maybe even skip it altogether.
It's a bit strange being home today: no paper, no mail, no food. So I guess it's time to do a reality check and head to HEB. Trying so hard not to be a whiner.... :(( |
alihutch - So the air may smell like one of the geysers at Yellowstone? :&
|
Doesn't smell of anything here...just a very fine dust on cars etc. can't see it in the air either.

AP 5:45 report
Situation getting worse, more European airports closed: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100416/...celand_volcano |
...any effects on the ground with air quality?
Nothing at the moment in Central England - I believe some people in Scotland could smell something not very pleasant but they are not issuing warnings to people, just say carry your inhaler if you have one (which I do anyway). |
All of UK airspace is closed again.

Knock-on effects:-
The motorways in my region (South East England) are deserted. I have never known the M25 to be so empty. I am really quite shocked at the volume of traffic the airports must contribute - would never have guessed it was that high. Saw a few cars at Bluewater with significant dust-coating, presumably volcanic. Wanted to ask where they'd come from, but the drivers weren't around. Complete peace and quiet for the first time in decades back home (East Angular), due to their being no aircraft. The only other similar (but shorter) break from air traffic happened a few years back when a 747 crashed near Stansted, and the airport was shut for a day or so. That was in winter, though, so no-one would have been out enjoying their garden then, anyway. The weather has been glorious, and there's an amusing debate/rant on MSN about whether air traffic causes bad weather, hence the clear blue skies this week. It's all a bit surreal. |
We are in Ireland. Our flight back to JFK for tomorrow has been cancelled. We are now scheduled for Wednesday but who knows if that will happen. I should be happy to have a few extra days here but unfortunately I am more stressed than happy. Must try to make the best of it!

no trail lines in the sky, I live at one end of leeds bradford airport and no noise all day. Blue sky all day but with a high level haze (could be my imagination). BBC radio 4 has articles around Heathrow looking at the wildlife, streams, fields and getting to understand how quiet it can be.
Driven the election back to page 2 |
Same story here in Hampshire - besutiful clear blue skies all day long yesterday and looks similar today. The only visible evidence of ash/smoke in the sky here was our first barbecue of the year yesterday evening! Put the garden furniture out for the summer as well, so it's bound to rain soon...

Hello I am writting my dissertation on crisis management relating to the ash cloud 2010. Therefore, I am looking for passengers who have been affected by any flight disruption. Is there anyone affected, who would like to support me? Pleaaase
