Hello,

We will be staying in the Marais area in November. Can you recommend any good bistros in this area that you liked that are not so expensive?

There are a group of bistros in rue Vieille du Temple between the corners of Rue du Tresor and rue Ste Croix de la Bretonnerie that are quite reasonably priced and that have basically the same menu, as they are owned by the same people and apparently share a kitchen. They are Les Philosophes and La Chaise au Plafond beside it in rue du Tresor and also L'Etoile Manquante on rue V du T. The well known "Le Petit Feu a Cheval" between les Philosophes and L'Etoile Manquante is owned by the same people and I am told also has the same food, but I have not been there.

Nearby at 10 rue Ste C de la B is Au Rendezvous des Amis, a nice little bistro with a cosy atmosphere. A decent warm goat's cheese salad is 9 Euros and the lunch fixed price menu is one of the 3 or 4 mains of the day (on blackboard only) plus a drink (wine, beer or mineral water) plus a cup of coffee or tea. The finches in the central window cage are real and they occasionally start to sing.

The patisserie just off rue V du T in rue des Rosiers has decent meals for lunch at good prices as well as very good almond croissants. For a very filling and cheap meal, go to L'As du Falafel in the same street for a falafel or chicken and salad in pitta bread, which is more expensive (8 Euros I think) to eat in than to take away.

I highly reccommend you try Chez Janou. It is a loud, somewhat hectic bistro in the Marais, full of Parisians, and we found the food to be wonderful. Quite reasonable also

La Dome De Marais, La Guirlande de Julie
were my two favorites in the Marais. La Tartine is a wine bar that specializes in tartines, open-faced sandwiches I also ate at:
Le Coude Fou
Le Bourguignon
Café du Tresor

Au Bascou,
Un Piano Sur le Trottoir,

Close by the rue Bastille, I tried both Le Petite Bofinger and Bofinger.

I spent 15 days on rue vielle du Temple.

In that area is "The Studio". Click on the page jaunes and find it's location.

This is a Tex-Mex restaurant but the location is great. Like they say, location, location, and location. The Studio is full of location.

P.S. Checked my notes I forgot to mention Le Fous d'en Face where I dined the first night and later invited to sit with some locals for the sing-a-long. The accordianist hands out sheets of paper with the lyrics. This was a Saturday night. I also dined but didn't like the food at 7Lézards but later downstairs, was a good jazz group..

The restaurant we enjoyed in the Marais was Le Petit Marche 9, Rue de Bearn. The staff were charming .It is on a street off Rue Saint Gilles near Place des Vosges.

Le Petit Bofinger, on the Rue de la Bastille across from the much more expensive Bofinger serves a decent prix fixe meal in a cosy atmosphere. I have eaten there a few times over the years and have always been pleased. Zagat gives them a good review.

Auberge Jarente on rue du Jarente and Le Pamphlette (spelling?) are both in the Marais.

Also heard good things about the wine bar Le Coude Fou.

We liked Taxi Jaune and "404" from our last stay in Paris

Cy1- Not to far along from Musee` Carnavalet at 29 Rue Francs Bourgeois you will find L'Oree Du Marais.
I had the Suggestion Du Chef which happened to be the most delicious Boeuf Bourguignonne served with a side of taglietelle. I had a 14cl of Muscadet with my meal and a coffee to finish, all for 19.50euros.

It would help a lot if everyone might estimate the cost of their meal in Euros (as some are doing) since "reasonably priced" is such a relative term. thanks for the tips.

I'm with Tod, above...we loved the Carnavalet Museum, and also spotted the L'Oree du Marais...great choice for lunch and , yes, in the vicinty of 20e's. Also, you just can't beat the super-delicious falafels anywhere on Rue de Rosiers. Chez Marianne is a pretty decent restauarant in that location, too.

Also, I agree with the posters who mention Bofingers...for lunch it's more on the approx. €30 range...but the unique domed dining area is worth it. Food is very good and there are many thngs on the menu that serve two. DW and I split an enormous sea food plate and also split a creme carmel dessert for around €50 plus tip. Go just before noon for a choice of seating in aformentioned room.

I wanted to post a new message after our return and say thanks again for the recommendation. We tried Le Petit Bofinger and loved it - wonderful attentive service, delicious foods- we tried a plate of Panache Fromage (Cheese plate) with a French Salad that came with Gourmet Salad Leaves, Olives, Tomatoes, Chevre Cheese and 2 toasts with some tomatoes and more cheese ( you can tell that I love cheese )
& my husband had lamb with potatoes which was delectable with sauce and interesting cooked potatoes. We also had delicous house red wine-we set on the 2 persons table against the wall, we ended up meeting a nice guy from Belgium, it was great- they greeted us by the door and pointed us to where the none smoking area is.
We also loved Paul. we loved their freshly made sandwiches. The Marais turned out to be a great place full of galleries, small boutiques and narrow streets. The real Paris I thought

Glad you enjoyed yourself in the Marais. It is one of our favorite areas in Paris too... enjoy getting lost in their winding streets, the architecture...
