Lyon overnight accomodation help please

Hi, we will be arriving in Lyon on October 10th where we will stay overnight and drop off our car (Peugeot car leasing). We will catch the train to Paris on the 11th for our 3 night stay.
What I am looking for is somewhere to stay that night in Lyon that will be a lovely stay for the two of us. Should it be near the train station not sure of the area at all. Is there a better area to stay in with such little time? Budget up to 250 euros. Happy with less though :)
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Is your train from Lyon from Perrache or Part Dieu station?

We liked Hotel La Résidence, which is near the Perrache station on a pedestrian street a couple of blocks from Place Bellecour and walking distance to Vieux Lyon. It is well within your budget. Don't know anything about the neighborhood near the Part Dieu station.

Hi kc,

We stayed at the Axotel (http://www.hotel-lyon.fr/).

It is less than a 10 min walk from Gare Perrache.

The area near Part Dieu is a newer area with business hotels for the most part, as far as I can figure out. I stayed at the Mercure Lyon Beaux Arts which I really liked a lot, it was very nice. It was a great location for seeing Lyon but not right near a train station (although it was only about a 10 euro taxi ride to Part Dieu. http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-2949...ts/index.shtml

I just like Accor hotels and tend to stay in them in France, they usually have a lot of good options in a city.

I really liked the Hôtel La Résidence, too. Big rooms, nice staff, on the main pedestrian only street, so quiet, 2 minutes to Place Bellecour. Great value.

Don't worry about being near the train station - central Lyon is very compact and you can walk from the train station to Place Bellecour in 15 minutes or take a tram or bus even quicker.

The Hotel de la Residence is in a great location and the staff are very nice but it's a budget hotel (less than half what you say) and I don't think anyone would describe it as lovely:-) But if you are looking for a much cheaper night than you expected, you could try that.

The Hotel des Celestins is also in a great location and is more charming and likewise well within your budget.

Thankyou so much for all the details you have given me. Will look at all the recommendations and let you know if I have any more questions. Anywhere where you would recommend for dinner?
