Luxembourg gardens in Paris

If you enjoy the Luxembourg gardens when you are in Paris, here is how the park looked today, with few tourists and not many more Parisians: http://tinyurl.com/nrxvew

It is my favorite time of year for the Luxembourg. Windy October and November days will also be fabulous.

Thanks so much kerouac for sharing early fall in Paris with us. It's my Paris fix for today. EJ ((#))

kerouac,

We will be back in Paris in two weeks...Jardin is always a favorite stop. Thank you so much for sharing these lovely photos...you have brought it to us that much sooner.

Michel_Paris Sep 21st, 2009 07:12 AM

There is something about Paris off-season that I find attractive, and your pics capture some of that.

Some people get a sugar buzz..you've given me a sweeter one, a Paris buzz.
Thanks, and keep posting "tourist" pics.

Cathinjoetown Sep 21st, 2009 07:18 AM

Wonderful, thank you. I have two lithographs by Harold Altman--one a winter scene in Luxembourg Gardens and one almost exactly like your second photo. Great shots. Wish I were there.

swandav2000 Sep 21st, 2009 07:38 AM

Lovely, kerouac, thank you!

TravelRibbon Sep 21st, 2009 07:48 AM

Kerouac,

The photos are amazing! I will be in Paris in November (during the U.S. Thanksgiving Holiday). I'm looking forward to walking through the gardens during that week.

Such beautiful photography Kerouac - glad you stopped to smell(?) the flowers! Oneday we will head to Paris in late September/ October to see the leaves change.
Thanks for taking a stroll through that touristy place!

Nikki Sep 21st, 2009 09:37 AM

There is so much color already. Looking out of my New England window, I hardly see any leaves turning yet. Thanks for the photos.

hmmm Sep 21st, 2009 09:53 AM

The shoulder seasons are magical in Paris. Thanks for the images.

Kerouac: You're awfully hard on Marie de Medicis though. She was a victim of family violence.

tomassocroccante Sep 21st, 2009 09:59 AM

Great fun to see. As for the near-empty cafe, Noel Coward put it well:
(paraphrased from memory)
I am always arriving just after or just before the festival or the season or the national holiday ... it is most pleasant.

Kerouac - beautiful photos, thank you for sharing.

spaarne Sep 21st, 2009 10:12 AM

Thanks kerouac. Looks like a gray day in gay Pahree.

grandmere Sep 21st, 2009 11:24 AM

Lovely photos; I was in the Luxembourg in April, just as the flowers were beginning, so especially nice to see the perspective from the end of the season. Thank you.

nicerue50 Sep 21st, 2009 11:51 AM

Thanks Kerouac. Did Nice this year, but now yearning for Paris. Will be back in August.

yestravel Sep 21st, 2009 11:51 AM

wonderful photos!

kerouac Sep 21st, 2009 11:52 AM

I'm glad you all liked the photos. I will try to do more touristy photo reports from time to time, now that the main tourist season is finished. But I have to admit that I avoid those parts of town in the middle of summer.

ParisJo Sep 21st, 2009 12:30 PM

Your pictures have made me yearn for our first fall trip to Paris next year (we've been 3 times, always in May). I am looking forward to different food, different atmosphere, different scenery, etc. Thank you for sharing, your pictures are always so appreciated.

Jo (btw, nice to see all the positive comments about your photos here as opposed to that other site!)

Thanks for taking the time to share your photo with us. It looks like a perfect day.

Cries_Van_Notebook Sep 21st, 2009 12:48 PM

Oh, how I miss my Luxembourg Gardens!!!!!

My little green chair awaits me with my picnic lunch from Monoprix.

Thank you,
Thin

Beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing. I always love your everyday Paris photos.

PJK Sep 21st, 2009 01:43 PM

Gorgeous.

Sally30 Sep 21st, 2009 03:21 PM

Thanks for the photos. My husband and I spent much of our last trip to Paris in the park with our toddler. My friends wondered why I went all the way to Europe to go to a "playground". Those are the friends that haven't spent time in the Luxembourg Gardens....

Plan2GoSoon Sep 21st, 2009 04:57 PM

Loved the photos. Am surprised that the trees are turning already. Only a few have started here in Chicagoland. Thanks for a bit of Paris!

309pbg Sep 21st, 2009 05:04 PM

Oh Kerouac,
So very beautiful. What an eye you have! My husband and I were there a year ago October and were reminiscing just this weekend. Merci!

JudyC Sep 21st, 2009 06:23 PM

Many thanks for sharing the photos.

Anna1013 Sep 21st, 2009 06:52 PM

Since it's considered a private park, is that one of the reasons you can't sit on the grass?

cynthia_booker Sep 21st, 2009 06:59 PM

Bookmarked so I can find these quickly and see them whenever I want. So beautiful.

BKP Sep 22nd, 2009 01:56 AM

We were there just three weeks ago and the leaves hadn't changed yet. Things change so quickly -- another excuse to go back often! Thank you for sharing these.

Sally30 -- we also spent the majority of our last trip at Luxembourg! The playground is amazing, isn't it? I love that there are no language barriers between children on a playground. They have a way of sorting it all out.

Libretto Sep 22nd, 2009 02:46 AM

Kerouac, such very beautiful vistas, but they make me sad. Sob, no Paris for me this year or for the foreseeable future (damn that sinking Pension fund!)

I'd be willing to brave the 25 hours plus from Australia in a heart beat just to walk in this park again.

We've always visited Europe in very late Summer/ Autumn for the fewer crowds, cooler weather, and the light. Such wonderful soft , gentle light and such a contrast and a balm for Australian eyes.

You made me pine for it so much seeing your magnificent photos- thanks for the delightful "pain'!

Images2 Sep 22nd, 2009 03:15 AM

We spent a couple of hours in Luxembourg gardens on Saturday. It was refreshingly not crowded even on the weekend. The Technoparade blew by which was the loudest, craziest parade I've ever experienced. The mess left behind was shameful. A swarm of green trash trucks followed it collecting all the debris.

After the parade passed the area an orchestra started playing in the park, to restore the sanity!

Byrd Sep 22nd, 2009 05:52 AM

So beautiful!

We stayed nearby several years ago in early October and the park looked just like this.

We enjoyed the park so much. I especially remember Sunday afternoon seeing the children with their boats and others riding ponies.

Yes, I'd love to be there right now!

Byrd

I always love your photos from Paris and these are one more gift. Thank you.

sherhatfield Sep 22nd, 2009 06:35 AM

Love the photos! What a contrast from what I saw back in May. My favorite pics are of the fountain. Thanks for sharing!

tower Sep 22nd, 2009 10:15 AM

bon jour, Kerouac....delightful pics, and how appropriate...my granddaughter is on business staying across the street at a hotel next to The Sorbonne....I sent on your pics...I'll bet she'll walk over to stroll the gardens tomorrow.

Thanks, K..."The Readers" pic is a classic!

Oh I must see that some day! I don't know how I missed it when I was in Paris.

The mention of the Afghan refugees on the other site intrigues me, because I saw a report about them on the news today.

PamSF Sep 22nd, 2009 12:45 PM

Thank you! I wish I was there right now.

Texasgal2 Sep 22nd, 2009 01:22 PM

Oh my... We'll be there next Friday! I was hoping the leaves would be beautiful then, and it looks like I'm in luck.

Thanks so much for your pictures, I can hardly wait now!!

StCirq Sep 22nd, 2009 05:17 PM

These are lovely, kerouac, but frankly just plain mean for those of us who have no idea when we'll get back to Paris. Really, it's painful for me to see this. I know you meant no harm, but I could just cry looking at these.
