Oops, just saw that you're coming with your boyfriend.

Then I'd second Hotel Bernadi. My friends found it impressive.

Hi Laurie, thanks so much for your feedback. I'm quite settled on Al Campaniel now I think and hope to secure my booking within the week. I'm still uncertain about the room versus the apartment though. Have read all the other versus threads but wonder specifically: Will the 20EU per night difference be easily made up for by money saved self-catering in Venice? 20EU turns out to be fairly significant when translated into dismal Aussie dollars! We'll see. Cheers again.

Hi Mel,
I don't know whether you will save money by staying in the apartment. The kitchen is very small. There is a small refrigerator, and a hot plate with 2 burners. We did not try to cook much here. My daughter just ate breakfast.

We ate at inexpensive but good restaurants. I would highly recommend that you get the book "Chow Venice".
It was a great resource for low budget restaurants with great food!

Just around the corner from the apartment is a cafe called Ciak. If you stand at the bar with the locals the coffee and capucinnos and rolls are very cheap.

The reason we decided to rent the apartment verses the room is because there was so much more space. The apartment is quite a bit larger than a regular hotel room, especially when compared with European standard hotel rooms.

Have a great time and if you have any more questions about the apartment or the area, I would be glad to help.

Laurie

Thanks so much Laurie you've completely sold me - I've just this minute confirmed my booking for the apartment. I'll be sure yo report back following my stay! :)

My suggestion is checking out venicerentials.com - they rent appartments and I stayed last year in one. We had a great time and I can not wait to go back and do the same thing.

We stayd at al campaniel www.alcampaniel.com. twice. The last time they had added a breakfast room on the second floor which was a nice change. We loved having coffee making facilities in the room. Book long in advance as they don't have many rooms. Nick and Alicia

I hope you enjoy AlCampaniel, Mel. When are you going to be in Venice? We will be there in mid June 2005.

Have a great time!!
