"Dull in the north,

Bright in the south."

That's not the weather, that's the people.

Veering away from carbon-based energy, just in case.

annhig:

In any case i wish you a happy trip to Iceland (the country) - i've been there twice - nice place to visit (if you can afford to buy anything there - the most outrageously expensive country i've ever been too) but place i would never want to live

dark dreary summers yield to totally almost dark dreary winters

curious if your Stansted-Keflavik flight will pass over Northern Eire territory?

Say hi to the Queen of Iceland for me.

Will you be bringing back some cod?

Cheers

It's just rained quite heavily here for the last two hours - but it's still boiling! I swear the temperature hasn't dropped at all. How can this be?

stokebailey Jul 31st, 2008 02:38 PM

Sorry RM. Sounds rotten.

Possible remedy from these parts: get naked, cover with wet or damp sheet, direct fan at self. Lots of oral fluids, and water is best. Warmish shower is better than cool or cold one. And my favorite: convince self it feels good.

I'd rather keep windows open even with 36 C temp and high humidity. Some people air condition until it feels like springtime in Montana. Our neighbors kept AC on the three weeks they were away for vacation.

How many "C's" is 102F? While we're melting here, you lucky guys in UK are having a cool spell at 86F. Wish I were there!

I think that'll be 30-something but I couldn't tell you exactly how many.

That is, offically, scorchio.

PatrickLondon Aug 1st, 2008 04:26 AM

(102-32)x5/9= 38.8C

RM67 Aug 1st, 2008 04:27 AM

I feel embaressed for whinging about 30 now!

PatrickLondon Aug 1st, 2008 04:34 AM

A rough conversion for Celsius is

<0 = brass monkeys
0-10 = parky (or "You'll catch your death")
10-15 = a bit of a nip in the air
15-20 = quite nice for the time of year, but I'll take me woolly or I won't feel the benefit
20-25 = it can't last
25-30 = don't blame me, I told you to wear a hat
30+ = I never thought I'd pray for snow

Well I've been moving house; not fun in this weather.

I took a day off work allegedly to pack but it was so bloody hot (very hot flat anyway that has been shut up with no windows open for last 2 weeks) that I ended up just laying nekkid on the bed gasping, for the whole afternoon, and packed up overnight instead.

RM67 Aug 1st, 2008 06:13 AM

Nona - moving house is man's work. You should be putting your feet up with a cold drink and watching 'Bargain Hunt' or some other such nonsense, whilst sweaty men hump everything around.

nona1 Aug 1st, 2008 06:19 AM

Well I had sweaty men humping...:-)

but I still had to pack everything first ...

...and now I've got to unpack it all. I just can't be bothered. My whole house looks like an episode of Bargain Hunt right now anyway.
