I'm bookmarking in this manner also because these links are very valuable and, frankly, may not be found so often if someone didn't come along and "bookmark" once in a while.

Well, there're so many experienced travelers here. As I maintained on the other thread, the best thing is to add something useful that will top the thread. For example, I can put in a semi-mindless link here because I'm too lazy to think of something really useful, like this one:

On the right side of page click on Arts Guide. This useful continuously updated list covers arts exhibitions all over the world, including London.

I'll add my recommendation of a fabulous London map, the Red Map. Here's what I wrote about this map in my trip report from my most recent London trip:

<i>"I called my favorite map company, Red Maps, to order a second copy of their London map, so we would each have one. The company puts out an amazing product; I swear by this map, which I’ve used for 3 visits now. It is a small company – you call (212 255-4645) and they send your map with an invoice, which you pay by check. I’ve also seen their maps at our local Barnes & Noble.

I cannot say enough good things about this map: it is durable, extremely legible, covers almost everywhere we went, shows all major sights and sites, and has the tube routes clearly overlaid on the streets. Going from walking on the streets to hopping on the tube is a seamless process with the Red Map. Color coded dots indicate the exact locations of tube. The best part is that each of the transit lines can be traced easily to its end or where it leaves the map, and there is a label of what that line is called. We have had a few other London maps, but this is head and shoulders above the rest. We have an AtoZ pocket map for the occasions when we venture off the edge of the Red Map’s coverage (which didn’t happen on this trip)"</i>

A bit of further information about the Red Map - you can get a preview of the map's appearance at http://www.redmaps.com/
The company does maps of several other European and North American cities. (We also have used the Berlin/Potsdam Red Map with great success).

I use this a lot as I never really know where to go in London (and am sick of ending up in pizza express!) The user reviews are really useful. OK, that's me done!

This one got buried in a very busy post above, but is worth mentioning again: fancyapint.com

They not only locate pubs by area, tube stop, etc., but also offer comments on the cuisine at each stop.

Just wanted to reply to the method of getting into london from airports. The private airport taxi companies are definitely much more convenient and its good to have everything planned before hand. I use http://www.taxisairporttransfers.com often. I have paid more sometimes for a black cab but even if they are like £5-10 more its worth the convenience of using such companies in my opinion.

LAst post to this was more than a year ago. I searched by "London superthread." IS anyone aware of a more recent superthread for London? This one was started in 2004!

I do suspect much of the information is still good, of course.
