London Olympics
A friend's son has finished up an internship in Holland (thanks to Fodorites for helping him find housing!) and plans to spend the next few weeks traveling in England.
Are there any free or low-cost things in the London area that have to do with the Olympics? For example, when the Super Bowl was in Indianapolis, we happened to drive through the downtown area and it was fun to see the large Super Bowl logo. I suppose too that he might be able to see the marathon or a similar event without tickets. |

He's already made reservations at hostels.
Thanks for the tips. Debbie |
Just a follow-up. The Olympic rings have now been hung between the towers on Tower Bridge, and adverts are now out for the big screens showing live action from the Olympics - in Hyde Park and in Victoria Park in East London next to the Olympic Park, for the Olympics, and Trafalgar Square for the Paralympics:

And there's a whole festival of cultural events linked to the Olympics - here's yesterday's offering:

Thanks for the updates.
The young man posted on Facebook that he is in Hyde Park awaiting the opening ceremonies on the jumbo screens. He was one of the first to enter. I'm sending on the links - thanks again. |
Wow - after browsing the links that you sent, I sure wish I was there too.
