London Heathrow Airport Transfer Recommendation
 

I am arranging an airport pickup for later this week for my wife and a girlfriend who are visiting London. Arriving at Heathrow Terminal 3 from the USA at 7:30am. I am interested in suggestions and recommendations for what private car service you have had good personal experience with, There are so many choices it's hard to decide on which service is reliable. Thank you!

Justairports is probably the best combination of service, reliability and cost. Very long established. A couple of other good ones (Addison Lee and few others) but they tend to charge significantly more.

Blackberry and Parkers are also well established and have good reputations. The public transport options are also excellent and will be as quick or quicker and a lot cheaper than a car.

I have used Justairports over 10 times and they are reliable. Have gotten much more expensive lately but they do make things easy

Blackberry is one of the ones I was including in the "A couple of other good ones (Addison Lee and few others)" but they their rates are generally 20-30% higher than Just Airports.

One thing to note: Most every car servoce will charge more from 7AM to 6PM because of London's congestion charge.

Ime, Blackberry Cars (which we used last year and were very happy with) actually charges less than Justairports.
E.g.,we've got a confirmed booking next month from Heathrow to South Kensington for £64 ($84), while Justairports is charging £73 ($96.)
Not a huge difference, but £9 buys a couple of fresh croissants and cappuccino at Paul. B-)

I know that you haven’t asked for public transport options but just to put into context two people could get into central London maybe quicker than any road option at that time of day for £5.60pp on the Piccadilly line or £13.30pp on the faster and more comfortable Elizabeth line. And those fares would count towards the daily cap.

Yes, that's how we always traveled up until recently -- including last year in London, when we tried to use the Stepfree tube stations. Unfortunately, even with our minimal, lightweight luggage, it was a challenge and a half (not helped by the fact that the "Stepfree" stations aren't quite as user-friendly as they're purported to be.)

Anyway, were we as strong and nimble as we were even two years ago (when we took a similar trip, requiring as much if not more gallivanting), we wouldn't even consider traveling by taxi. And I certainly would encourage anybody under the age of 75 -- or anybody who doesn't have an arthritic body part -- to take advantage of the wonderful public transportation that London offers! :-)

Aa long as I have the attention of the London experts, DH and I will be going soon. We rented a flat near Canada Water on the Jubilee line. From LHR, I was thinking we would take the Elizabeth line to Bond Street, then the Jubilee line to Canada Water. My only concern is stairs at the Bond Street Station. Will they have elevators (lifts?) I expect to have stairs at Canada Water, but the fewer, the better.

But you might want to double-check before assuming that the lifts at every "step-free" station are in service.
E.g., last year when we were expecting a lift at a certain station that was deemed step-free, the lift was out of order, which left us with several flights of stairs to navigate (and we each had a rolling-but-not-weightless suitcase and a backpack.) Fortunately, a kind young man offered to help us with our luggage; but that's not something I'd count on, of course!

It's helpful that it's been pointed out that this is an old thread. I didn't pick that up. But if anyone is reading this, I'd say do not use the tube if you cannot manage the stairs. Some stations have lifts, sometimes they aren't working. Sometimes you need a different line to what you thought, because of track closure or a delay of some kind.

I have even seen a couple standing at the bottom of a long escalator with a small mountain of luggage, unable to manage an upstairs escalator. In this case, a man took up a large case for them.

Dont use the tube unless you can manage any stairs. Go slowly, with one hand on the rail, stop for a breath now and then. Been there, done that. We reach an age where it's not so easy.

P.M. you could also take the Elizabeth line to Canary Wharf then Uber or taxi over to Canada Water. It is only one stop on the Jubilee line from Canary Wharf, but you need to leave the Elizabeth line station completely and walk about 10 minutes to the Jubilee line. There are lifts, however, and so many that if one stops working, there will be another one you can use.

We can handle stairs if necessary, my biggest concern is listening to my DH being grouchy about it. :mad:

KayF, your post is very helpful. In our case last year, I assumed it (lift being out of order) was an anomaly. I guess it's not an uncommon occurrence.

I've always been confident using the tube; I just wish I'd taken time over the years to become as confident with the bus system, which appears to be very good and probably just as easily navigated as the tube.
