London Euston train station
 

I'm still doing preliminary planning for taking a train into London. The website says the train arrives at Euston.

Where is this located (i.e., is it in central london?)
Is there a tube station there to connect to other parts of London?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Central London is ringed by about a dozen terminus stations for railway lines from the rest of the country. Euston is the major long-distance one.

Like all of these terminuses, it's got a number of tube lines running through it.

However, just to complicate things, the Circle tube line, which scurries around the periphery of the centre, isn't one of them, but stops at Euston Square, which some visitors think is the station for Euston, is actually jolly handy for the station if you've got no bags, but is a real pain inthe goolies to get to with luggage - not least because it was built in about 1855 and hasn't got any escalators - or if it's raining.

Euston has enough tube lines to get almost anywhere you want to quickly without that stroll

It's in the northern end of central London (if that makes sense) and it is on the tube, yes.

sounds like Euston is THE major long-distance one, like a London Central station???

There's the tube..and there are lots of buses, I mean, LOTS :) I've been near in a hotel and we went to the station to get them.

Euston is just one of the major train stations. Remember, there are different train companies that run seperate routes to different parts of the country. Different from most countries of the world.

Euston is the main station for Virgin Train's operation along the West Coast Main Line to Glasgow, passing major cities like Birmingham & Manchester.

But if you're going to Edinburgh, then you'll most likely to use GNER's East Coast Mainline out of King's Cross. And going to Nottingham or Sheffield, you'll use Midland Mainline out of St. Pancras. Going to W/SW, you'll use Paddington. And so on...

Or Waterloon International if you're going to Paris/Brussels.

Therefore, I really wouldn't say it's <b>the</b> major long-distance station.

So may we suppose that flanneruk hails either from Lancashire or from Glasgow? ;-)

All good stuff. The only thing I would add is that getting a can from the rank at the station is a serious pain. There's always a huge queue. Go and hail one on the Euston Rd outside.

Yes, last I was there (April) even the loos were clean!

And this level of civilization will be switched to St. Pancras next year. Waterloo will be uncivilized again! :)
