RE:Always finding the cheapest price - Eri - For the extra money I had an American Company monitoring the flight. When I called to explain the delay due to a death on my trans-Atlantic flight I knew I would reach someone with whom I could easily communicate. I speak Italian fairly well, but I also recognize that 24 hours after leaving home my Italian is not going to be at it's best. Additionally as a woman traveling alone, I liked having an another layer of contact available to me.

I've only used Rome Shuttle, thanks to recommendations from posters here. They were efficient, friendly, clean and comfortable car, and knew exactly where they were going. They were waiting for us with name on sign when we arrived. I booked online without prepaying, and the fee was exactly the 35 euro they said it would be. I will use them from now on.

Perhaps romeinlimo uses actual limos instead of regular cars?

Teach,
Rome Shuttle Limousine are very prompt in answering e-mails in English. They also are very polite and available on the phone in English! We used them twice and found their service efficient and polite. The driver was waiting for us with a sign. Our flight arrived delayed by 1.5 hours, and the driver was well informed about the delay and was waiting in the terminal. He was helpful, carried our suitcases to the car at the airport and into the hotel in Rome. The rate was 35 Euros for up to 4 passengers. I still can't understand what can 50 Euros offer that will be better than that.

My use of the name Rome Shuttle might be confusing. Yes the company I used is actually called Rome Shuttle Limousine and their website is
www.romeshuttlelimousine.com

akdLovesItaly,

Yes, Stefano from RomeCabs of course wants to know your flight information. We have been delayed 45 minutes on one occasion but he can see that information in the airport. He was there waiting on us.
If you choose to take the Leonardo Express train into Rome, it will cost about 10 Euros each and takes about25-30 minutes. Once in Termini you'll have to walk or take a taxi or bus to your hotel.

NeoPatrick: Thanks for your answer. It helps to know that more than one Fodorite recommends the same company; as it appears too many have almost the same names!
When they emailed me they asked for a cell phone. Did you have a cell phone? I won't, so I was a little concerned. I like the feeling of putting the transfer from the airport to the hotel behind me so I can move on to other details of my trip.
Thank you for your help; it gives me peace of mind!

Traveler (and others):

If you're like me, you leave certain information with someone back home for emergency (credit card info, etc.) One thing I did not leave was the contact info for Rome Shuttle.

As it happened, we not only arrived late. We ended up on a different flight...from a different city. Luckily, I remembered the shuttle's email address and was able to have my nephew contact them while we were airborne. But the only reason I remembered it was that I'd written them the previous day.

So leave the shuttle contact info with someone back home...just in case.

NeoPatrick Dec 4th, 2006 04:51 AM

Believe it or not, I don't even have a cell phone at home -- never had when abroad. That was not an issue. I gave them our arrival information, they had checked, and they were there waiting.

Funny storey though about a different shuttle company -- in Amsterdam. They were looking for four of us with "lots of luggage" which is why we had ordered a van. BA lost all our luggage, so when we came through customs and passed all the drivers holding signs, there was none for us. We finally borrowed a cell phone to call the company which insisted the guy was right there. It seems he never held up the sign with our name because he never saw "four people with a lot of luggage". We finally made contact -- him on one cell phone and me on another walking toward each other and matching landmarks in the terminal.

Having used a number of shuttle services in various cities, one point is to always have their number handy on arrival -- just in case.

<Used RSL both to and from airport. 1st time we had a driver who could speak some English, and as one of us spoke Italian we went along nicely. We had given him the wrong address, but he took us where we were supposed to be. No xtra charge, but then it was only couple of 100ms away. The one we had on return was sullen and hardly English-speaking. Neither of the cars had any logo to tell they were RSL-used. The supervisor (Stefano ?) which we had contact with when ordering was helpful enough via e-mail, but I had a feeling he may have misunderstood us a little. There have been other postings giving RSL and Stefano ? both excellent and not-so exc. ratings. We chose RSL because of price, the hotel came up with 60EUR for 4 persons.

There seems to be a slight misconception here about what is required of the driver of an airport transfer limousine service.

His job is to get you from the airport to your hotel. Period.

If he is friendly, English-speaking and chatty and gives you a guided tour of the places you pass between the airport and your hotel, all the better. But it is decidedly not his job to do so.

travelgirl2 Dec 4th, 2006 05:22 AM

We used www.romashuttle.com 3 times this summer. It cost 40 euros for 4 people.

On one of the three trips, there were 2 other people already in the van when it can to our hotel to pick us up, which was no problem. On the other 2 trips, we were the only ones in the van.

They were very reliable and I would use them again. The drivers didn't talk with us at all, just drove.

NeoPatrick Dec 4th, 2006 05:45 AM

I don't want to run down another company, but 40 euros for four people in a shared van that makes other stops instead of 35 euros for four in your own car direct to your hotel or apartment with a driver who speaks English and gives a "tour" on the way? No comparison.

travelgirl2 Dec 4th, 2006 05:10 PM

You are right, NeoPatrick. But I was looking at it as compared to the 75 euros the hotel was going to charge us for the ride.

Traveler2 Dec 4th, 2006 08:54 PM

NeoPatrick: Again I want to thank you for being so helpful! I was concerned about the cell phone, but relieved to find out it is not a requirement.

Good point, I will make sure I carry their contact number with me.
Thanks

I used rome shuttle limousine service on my trip to Rome in June. It is a very good idea to have have a few euros on hand to buy a calling card in the event you need to contact them.

My flight arrived at 6am, at that hour of the morning the airport was very quiet, so we collected our bags and was through customs in no time. We got to arrivals and there was no-one waiting for us. I thought oh no this is not a good start. We waited for about a 1/2hr, then bought a phone card and tried calling them - after a number of attempts (cause i struggled to work out what digits to include or not include re area codes) I finally made contact. Just as the phone answered I spotted the driver in the arrivals area with our name on the sign. The reason he was late was because it usually takes about 45mins to 1hr to go through baggage claims and customs - however not at 6am in the morning.

We were relieved to see him, he was nice, spoke english and all was fine in the end.

My trip saw me return to Rome airport again and I had booked rome shuttle limousine service to pick us up, but I decided to cancel it and catch the train. I decided to do this cause I didn't want to be left hanging around the airport for an hour or so again. We found the train to be very easy to use. We caught the train to the termi, then linked up with a metro train and arrived at our b&b in less than an hour :)

All the best.

Thanks MollyJones. I will find an ATM at the airport to make sure I have euros for the trip and for the phone.

During my last visit in Rome i have arranged my transfer with Colosseum travel www.colosseumtravel.com and i must say i was suprised how well everything worked out. I paid for the trasfer on a Mercedes Sedan "E" class 60 euros and the driver was there to pick us up us as soon as we got trough the check-out. My girlfrind, on the way to our hotel, needed to stop at a chemist and a supermarket, and the driver was really helpful and patience and didn't rush us at all. While driving us to the hotel he even gave us some cultural notice about the sights we where seeing and where to go to eat an unexpensive meal. I defenetly raccomand this limousine service!

NeoPatrick Sep 26th, 2008 08:40 AM

Simon, that sounds very much like the service I and others here have described from romeshuttlelimousine.com. The only difference is that you paid 60 euros and the rest of us paid 35 euros. Even our car was also a Mercedes E class, we also made a stop, and also got some tips and sightseeing along the way.

Do you care to explain what made the company you came here and registered just to tell us about made it worth the extra 25 euros?

Was this the only thing on your whole trip you found worth mentioning? What was the "inexpensive meal" place he recommended? How was it?
